I know this is a topic that's been discussed to death. But what I'm curious about is how are these guys keeping such good feedback? Granted some people are leaving positive feedback just because the product arrived, but others actually sound impressed. FYI I am not debating whether it works or not; I am quite sure it doesn't. I just don't see why these guys aren't run off of ebay.

I'm sure you're talking about the cheap $40 power chips that claim to give you 20 HP. Maybe the people who buy them are ricers who think a coffee can exhaust is cool. There are some stupid people on eBay who will believe anything written down. I just wish we had a tuner like the SuperChips that gave us 100+ HP just from pushing a few buttons like on the GM diesels.

Considering that a proven, reputable Chip/ECU module like the UNICHIP runs about $600-700 and custom tuning adds another $400-500..... They are pure scam. I don't know about diesels, but you aren't gonna get anything but fooled for $20 when it comes to gas.

I am sure the ebay things aren't worth the plastic they're made from. I was on the Lexus board and someone explained it pretty good. Even if it did trick the ecu, once the computer goes into closed loop (please don't get mad if I butcher the terminology), the ecu ignores anything it does. Apparently its only open for a brief period when you start your car.

I talked at length with Gadget about URD's unit. By the time you get done with all the equipment you need, you are just as expensive as a unichip. And I hate to ruin my engine by altering something I wasn't supposed to.

One thing about "Tuner chips" is that you need to have them TUNED to your vehicle, these "pre-tuned" 40$ pieces of crap are a joke. If they were a real tuner chip and were "pre-tuned" for an FJ Cruiser, if you had any modications such as a free-flowing exhaust, headers, supercharger etc, and threw it on there then you would seriously mess up your vehicle. Spend the money on a Unichip and get it tuned to your vehicle, NEVER buy a "pre-tuned" chip as you can destroy your engine. Tuning is something you mess around with.

I'd steer clear of them. Some of the cheap performance chips I have seen are just a resister that you install to send the computer a false sensor signal. You will probably pay the price later. Could be a damaged engine.
