That is an awesome idea, to own one's own pressure washer and do it when you get home!

I never thought of that. Having to go to a car wash each weak isn't always convenient, and with your strategy it can be every single day, when needed.

Brilliant!
thx,
Norm
Yep. That’s it. If you want I can take a picture of the simple little gadget that shoots at an angle. But first, of course, comes the pressure washer.

Here is the underside of my 2007, bought new, 82,000 miles. It has always been exposed to mag chloride From going to ski resorts and living in various high altitude, mag chloride kinda places.

Also is the picture of the simple angle attachment to my compressor wand that lets me shoot the underside of my FJ. I bought it at Lowes for about $13 - my 10% discount. In the winter the only pain is that I have to disconnect and drain the water hose every time to keep it from freezing. I also sometimes turn my driveway into an ice rink which is a fun base to shovel snow on.

Thoughts everyone?
It works and drives great. I just want to know if good scaling and brushing with a coat of anti-rust stuff would take care of it.

Hey everyone,

Looking to buy my first FJ and am looking at a few, but have concerns regarding rust in one. Wife and I have looked at about 6-7 total and I haven’t seen one with this much rust. It’s located almost 3 hours from us so I’m going off info and pictures from current owner. I cannot see it for myself before I’d make the drive to purchase.

The rest of it is in great shape, clean history, no accidents.

It’s an 07 4WD, just over 200k miles. I’d appreciate some help to see if I should consider it. I know it’s hard just based on pics, but any help or input would be great!

Thanks!! View attachment 1121628 View attachment 1121622 View attachment 1121623 View attachment 1121624 View attachment 1121625

I own a 2007 that I bought new. My rust situation over time is similar to yours. To me it really doesn’t look so bad.

I pressure wash the underside about every second trip to the ski hill. I do a good job with it. A pain in the butt since it is COLD OUT and freezing but worth it.

I also spray the underside with a rust treatment that I get at the parts store, good and thick.

I would be more concerned about regular maintenance over 200,000 miles than rust.

This would be a more appropriate thread than this Test Driving/Looking to Buy thread. Lots of help in here...
