I just bought a lift kit for my 2012 FJ. I presently have the stock 265/70R17 tires on it. I want to keep, for now, the stock 17" wheels.

Question? What is the tire size that starts getting too big? I'm thinking that I might want 285/70R17 but I'm ignorant as to what will work.

That will be fine. You may need to get the body mount chopped.

Otherwise folks have been running these on the stock wheels. Some push the limits due to width but it personal preference and whether or not the tire shop will mount them.

295/70R17
305/65R17
315/70R17

Those will require a BMC and possibly some added caster to the alignment to get the wheels off the fire wall.

Most run the 285's since they seem to match the speedo better, add height (32.7" versus the stock 31.6") and look better

Hope that helps otherwise there is a million threads on this- just use Google and type the question with FJ Cruiser in it- most will refer back to actual threads here on the forum

Good Luck

Newbie too... but I can vouch that the 3" Rough Country lift comfortably fits 285/70/R17 BFG Mud Terrains on stock wheels... no rubbing at all, great ride too.

Truck went from:

Pre-lift
12" at step (stock nerf bar)
35" at front fender
36" at back fender

Post-Lift and Tires
16" at step
39.0" at front fender
39.5" at back fender

All measurements are rounded to the nearest 1/2"

Have you put on bigger tires yet? I like my stock wheels, but wonder if 7.5 " is big enough for 285/70/17 or even 285/75/17. Interested to hear what you did and how it is working for you.:)

Stay away from 35's, 33's are all you need. My 35's get stuffed and lock up. Wish I could go back in time.
