Thanks for providing the link. That's the first outfit that's I've seen making TC's for the FJ (although they do say that everyone is "made to order"). There's another outfit that makes a modified valve body but they didn't offer a TC last time I checked. It appears that the TC may be a weak link in the otherwise stout A750F tranny.

to change the converter you have to remove the transmission. also, there may be other problems than just the converter. good luck

When I did all my mods on my 96 4Runner, modifying the torque converter was the ONE mod I deeply regretted.

I looked at that add and they don't say what they are doing to the torque converter other than overhauling it.

I can tell you this, the last thing you will want to do is raise the stall speed unless you are going to dedicate your truck to drag racing. For off road use the last thing you want to do is raise the stall speed. This makes it less efficient and really heats the fluid more.

If you need to replace your converter I would recommend you get a new one from the Toyota dealer.

If you want talk about this you can give me a call and stop by my website GadgetOnline.

why would i put the same peice that failed back in. there has to be a better option.
it looks like i can select my stall speed, if i knew what that was. if you scrol down you will see the option to costom build to your needs. i droped them an e mail so we will have to see what they say. dont get me wrong, i bet you know what your talking about, but like i said there has to be a better setup.

I have the same shudder in mine as you do I guess. First off why do you think its the torque converter? Does it happen every time it shifts? In my case it is really noticeable between 2nd and 3rd but only on a flat surface and under minimal power. I figured it was the clutch between those gears.I'm not a transmission specialist but it seemed to work fine for the first 90k miles so I hate to do it but I made an appointment at the stealership to have it looked at. Worst case I will buy a complete transmission from Trdparts4u and put it in myself.

I had a chat with Ace and he said that alot of fj guys have contacted him. They are rebuilt but with tighter clearances and a lower stall rpm. He said that he builds them to withstand 3X the factory torque and that they will run much cooler than the stock TC. It comes with a one year warranty, 100% money back. Why hasn't there been a recall on the bloody thing? I hope it's a good as it sounds
