Hi Fellow Cruisers.

I just bought the Trail Team it rocks!

Great deal too, if your in No Cal hit me up I'll hook you up.

Questions: I have driven the truck for 100 miles and just for kicks filled up at both 50 mile marks.
Day one HWY and city (SF) 14.7 MPG. Day two just city 9.8 MPG.

What gives? I thought the FJ were rated at 20 MPG this is almost worse than BEASTIE my 02 Tundra 4X4 which gets 17 on the HWY and 10 plus in the city...

Do these things need to break in to get the suggested mileage? I have never experienced this with any other car.

Please let me know!

Thanks

The ratings I think were in optimal conditions, super light foot, never over 60 mph, wind behind you and rolling downhill. For a stock rig, you should be getting a little better than that unless you are driving alot of hilly roads or leadfooting. I have a pretty beefed up ride and i average 10 to 13 MPG. welcome to the party!!

Welcome to teh forum. The mileage will improve as it breaks in. In stock form, expect 15-18 mpg in most cases. If you're easy on the gas, you can get 20.

Congratulations on the TT and Welcome to the FJ Family! Milage can vary ALOT on driving style alone. I added a CAI and TRD Exhaust thinking it might improve milage...Now I can't keep my foot out of it! Tire pressure is another factor...check that too...I like to keep mine around 36-38 and everytime I go into the dealership they drop em down to 32...the difference is small but noticeable. Bottome line, it will improve with time so just enjoy the ride. :)

My FJ has about 1500 miles now on it. Still nice and new. I have been getting between 15 to 19 MPG with combined around-town and highway driving. I can accept that. No roof rack, which some claim cut 1 MPG. Only external mod so far is rock rails which add the constant weight of a person. I usually buy new and all vehicles' MPG have improved over the first serveral thousand miles. Enjoy your FJ!

Mine is stock except for the skid. I drive real light and do about 75% highway and get 20. If I ride the city a lot it drops to about 17-18. It does take a few hundred mile to break in, after that it should go up a little.

P.S. If my wife drives it she averages a lot less because of her enlarged right foot.

:wave:Welcome, we have an 07 2wd, really modded, the best we got was 21 on the highway, worst is around town with the a/c on about 13. We average about 16-17 combined (no a/c). So just be prepared when you mod for some fluctuation! Happy wheeling too!

i drive 3 miles to work and i can make 25 dollars(used to be 10!) of gas get me through the work week no problem
but its the weekends when you want to go somewhere that takes the $$$ to fill her up, but its worth it!

Also...

In figuring mileage, it would seem in my case (and confirmed by others) that the fuel gauge actually only reads/counts approx 16 gallons of the 19 total in the tank - 3 gallons in reserve?

As an example, I zeroed my TripA meter with my fill last week sometime, and checked it yesterday as the fuel gauge landed dead on 1/4 tank remaining = 191.4 miles traveled. I filled up at this point getting 11.73 gallons = 16.317 MPG

Just my "4855 cents"

New TT owner here as well... as many have stated, intial mileage will suck, and get better... never great.

On my way into work (50 miles one way) I have gotten 18 mpg as my best, and have gotten as low as 12 mpg in the hills. All stock
