If you take the time to use the SEARCH function, you will find TONS of information on transmission fluid changes, DIY flushes, torque converter lockup clutch shuddering, and dozens of other transmission fluid related issues.

If you don't have service records showing previous fluid changes, probably the safest thing is to do a series of pan dumps and refills at 5K mile intervals. There is no 'fine' filter inside the pan, just a screen, so dropping the pan is unnecessary unless you want to look for debris on the pan magnets.

If you don't service the fluid, you will almost CERTAINLY experience problems with the lockup clutch in the not-too-distant future.

I took mine to the dealership at 130k miles for a full transmission flush because I was developing the famous shudder. I provided my own oil (a full case of blue bottles of Amsoil Signature Series Full Synthetic ATF). It's been 31k miles since and the FJ shifts smoother than when I first purchased it and the shudder never came back. Shortly after that I replaced all the fluids in the transfer case and differentials with corresponding Amsoil products as well.

2007 FJ Cruiser

I was informed by Toyota that there is no filter on my FJ's transmission, I have watch youtube people changing this filter on their FJ cruiser. Are there any version of 07 FJ out there that I don't know of? Rockauto sells the filter kit for my FJ.

It's not really a filter, it's just a screen. Mine was totally clear last time I dropped the pan so I skipped it this time.

I have not change mine since I bought it in 07 and I have notice this high pitch sound coming from the bottom and in the front of the engine, this noises came in when a shop change my transmission fluid recently, I have read somewhere that if you hear noise when shifting to P or D or N its an indication that the screen aka filter needs to be swap. I hear tapping noise either from my front engine, I have check the pulleys they are all good, the correct belt was reinstalled as the shop I went to change it installed a different model belt, my FJ is free noise before all the service was done in this shop, now I have to deal with all of this noises, trying to maintain your ride in good condition and when you got it back from the shop problem noises appeared. I decided to service my own truck now as shop are not reliable including Toyota. I could be checking the brake pad as well, I was told I have 6% left on the pad.
