Can someone with the TRD Brake kit tell me how much of a difference there is in stopping power, size (Will it fit my wheels?), cost for install, any other problems or issues?

Thanks,

Ben

I would look at other sources for a big brake kit, while the TRD is a good kit its not worth the price IMO. You do pay for the name.

I would recomend giving these guys a try for a big brake kit. I have used them in past and they are top notch. They will help you out with what you are looking for.

You will need 18s for that kit. I believe Air2Air might be running it.

edit: Air2air's brake kit is made by StopTech. It's not the same as the regular TRDs.

oem brakes stop the car in 125 feet,
why would you wanna change your brakes?
they stop a stock righ in 125 feet. When you add steel bumpers, sliders, skids, and all the other crap we throw on our rigs, that 125 quickly gets longer. Good breaks are an important mod that are often overlooked. Plus they look awesome.

But you will no longer be able to use 16 and 17 inch wheels. The size restriction on tire selection is a big compromise.

Edit: regular TRD brakes will work with 16s and 17s. I was referring to Air2air's "StopTech" kit earlier (which was later purchased by TRD).
I'm pretty positive you don't need 18 inch wheels to use the TRD big break kit. I've seen it on a TRD edition FJ with just stock 16 inch TRD wheels. Just upgrading to stainless braided break lines will make a big improvement. Add some performance pads and it will be even better.
The TRD is 17" and up.

A2A has the brembo's i think.
I just emailed him to confirm. I may have spoke too soon!
I wasnt to impressed by my brakes stock now i have 305/65/17's heavier wheels. When I have to replace my brakes i would just upgrade. From what i here it is like a mm difference. I would want to know if the trd brake upgrade would add much more stopping power.

They wouldnt make the trd kit if it didnt fit on the trd special edition and that truck is running 16's

What will the brake lines do? Also I was looking thru some threds and they said that the trd ss lines wont run with the stock brakes???????????
OK FJamming asked me to weigh in here.

I LOVE my TRD big brakes. You will notice a mighty big improvement. Yes, the stock brakes are good. But these are much better.

Everyone who drives it notices the improvement. Also I have not had to change pads in 20,000 miles. Comparison with stock:

When I got mine in November 2006 they were not TRD's but Stoptechs. TRD bought the rights to Stoptech for some of the Toyota vehicles.

Here they are on Gadget's 4Runner:

Thanks Todd. Looks like I've misspoken. They are not the same as regular TRD brakes. These guys are monsters.
So the stop tech will be the exact same as the trd if I order them? they look a lot bigger.....What were those other threds talking about when they said it is a mm difference?
Crib I forgot to mention mine are the 355mm and are likely a tad too big. I would go with TRD's recommendation. It's been awhile since I was up on the latest on this
Execellent thread, I am planning on doing the same thing when I have to replace brakes.
Same questions. Do you have to replace line and what size rims fit and does it work with the factory abs with out having to change anything else?
Basically the question still goes unanswered.... The TRD Brakes obviously have to fit with stock wheels 16's or 17's or they wouldn't make them. Why would they mass produce a part that doesn't work on there vehicles.......With that said....Does anyone have the TRD brakes? Are the worth the money?
So.. In the end are 18"s required?
Dom, Stoptechs are MUCH bigger then TRDs and need 18s. TRDs apparently will fit 16s and 17s according to others who's chimed up.

I guess you'll need to study up on swept area and pressure to make a determination on whether it's worth it or not. Just by looking at the Stoptech, you KNOW they are better. They look like Porsche brakes.
Are slotted rotor's even a good idea for the dirt?? Seems like dirt would pack in there.
