Well, I never drive around with my light cover's on because i hated the looks of the Hella 500 covers. They just yelled "cheap ass" and they are ugly as hell IMO.


So, instead of getting pulled over and ticketed, I painted mine.

I used Rustolem Hammered spray paint.*

Cheap fix, looks a thousand times better.


* yes, i know the light covers are the color they are to let some light through, but, oh well.

Why would you get ticketed? For the extra lights?
I used that paint on my license plate frames. Great stuff!

In CA uncovered aux lights are some kind of violation.

what's wrong with the regular Hella covers? why do you feel they are cheap?

are the TT fog lights and "FJ" covers re-branded Hella 500s? if so, getting a set of those covers would be sweet.

1) I think the design of them are just ugly (logo, etc)

2) They are wal-mart lights, low end.. blah blah.


I don't like the TT covers.. to much FJness.

Does your FJ not have the sound deadening tar like stuff in the wheel wells??? I can't see blue on the fender section near my door like you can.

Sure its there, but you see the blue where the plastic fender liner was. I never put it back in when i installed the snorkel.

Dom, I think driving light level lights doesn't need covers. Only lights higher up need covers.

Hmm never thought of that.. i'll have to ask in the police officer thread.
