If everything goes to plan (which it never does) I should be checking into my hotel in Ouray sometime on Tuesday 7-20-10. Once registered, what else is there to do on Wednesday?

Is anyone interested in meeting up for an unofficial run?

I only get to a chance to head off road a few times a year, so I would like to be out as much as possible. I guess we could always just walk around town and shop, but I'd rather take the Alpine loop down to Silverton for shopping and lunch.

I'd like to keep this a pretty mild run since I'm still running stock. I should have the lift and skids installed before the trip, but I won't count on it.

Thanks,
Chuck

Last year I thought I was the only person from Oklahoma wheeling my FJ, but at I ran into 3 or 4 others at the Summit. It really surprised me when I walked up to another 08 Brick FJ, with OK plates on it that wasn't mine. Small world.

We will be headed from Moab to Ouray that Wednesday and will probably take the scenic route up and over Omogene that day.

Chuck, did you get that door fixed?

I'll be in Ouray so wouldn't I be going the wrong way on Imogene to meet up with you?

Which door? The driver door opens fine, but not because I really fixed it. The passenger door still has the dent from last year. I'm waiting for repairs till after Ouray, no sense in messing up a new paint job. I've got a "DO" bumper on order, and my lift, skids, rock rails and Outrider armor waiting to be installed. I'm hoping to have everything but the bumper on this week. Jason just has to get the bumper to me before the 9th, or it wont make the trip. I just wish I didn't have to work in the 100 degree heat; anyone have a air-conditioned garage in OKC that they would let me use?

I'm thinking about ordering a winch since I tend to get stuck in the mud. I just haven't decided what to get. I'd like to have it installed before the trip, but I don't want to order it until I know the bumper will be here. If I have to wait till after the trip for the bumper it wont get installed until next years Jamboree!

Chuck, maybe Jason could bring your bumper to the Summit and we'll help you install it in the cool mountain air!

We need to talk offline sometime about a beagle.....

I work at a ford dealership in pauls valley, and the owner lets us work on our rigs after hours. If you need help with any of that stuff, I could hook ya up with a rack and all the tools you would ever need. Just an hour drive form the city

Last I talked to DO they said they didn't have plans to attending the Summit this year. I guess that could change, but I can't count on them bringing it. One other problem, How do I get my old bumper back home?

Plenty of us will be running trails on Tuesday and on Wednesday. Trail leaders are especially encouraged to join a group and prerun trails. Meetups are typically at the Best Western. Don't be bashful, join the fun.

Groups should limit to 10 vehicles. Better for oncoming traffic. And don't forget to be nice to the locals!

Verbally Demello said he was coming, and old bumpers are easy to fit in the back, or tie to the roof. Also, why do you still want your stock bumper?

I'll probably be doing a ton of runs Wednesday like last year, prerunning them all most likely, so look around the best western, you'll find someone going up at some point. I think last year I did three trails on Wednesday. I'll be going fast though!

Demello may be at the event, but If I can get the bumper installed before the trip, I'll have more time on the trails. And why wouldn't you want to keep your old bumper? What If I want to sell the FJ and return it to stock?

As far as pre running the trails, I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up. I'd rather go with some people that are running stock, or there for the first time and need some extra time. I'm not much of a hard core wheeler, my FJ just isn't build up for it.

If you do want to meet up, I'll be driving an FJ Cruiser. :) Ok, a Brick 08 FJ, with Oklahoma Tags and a dent/scrape on the passenger side doors.

I'm sure we won't always be going fast. I'll be easier to find, I'll have the only 4th Gen 4Runner at the event!

He won't be there this year, so I am now the only one.

I will be in town Tuesday afternoon, so I would love to go with you. I am testing a trailer so will not be going as fast as the wild man!!!!

PM me and I will give you my cell number, we can meet up and do any and all you want.

Do not worry about your stock vehicle, it will do all the trails around Ouray, Montrose not so much.

This is an event of beauty, not hard core driving, truck thrashing. Enjoy the splendor that is Ouray, you will never forget it.

I just signed up to be a Trail Lead for California / Corkscrew on Thursday 9am. So to get ready for it I'd like to run the trail on Wednesday but with a slight modification. I'd like to meet in Ouray and drive down to Silverton to start the run at the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour. It looks interesting and that's the kind of thing I like to do while on vacation.

So if anyone is interested, here is the plan.

Meet the the Best Western some time in the morning say 9:30 (TBD).
Drive down to SIlverton via HWY 550.
Follow the directions to the Mine on CR 2.
Enjoy the hour long tour (Adults $17 others less)
Prep FJ's for the trail (Eg, Air Down, get a water from the ice chest)
Take CR2 North back to the Alpine loop and a quick stop in "Animas Forks".
From Animas Forks continue on the Alpine look to the California Gulch Trail head.
California Gulch connects up to Corkscrew Gulch and then back to HWY 550.
Air up and take Hwy 550 back to Ouray.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Thanks,
Chuck
