Mojave Road – 3/13-14/2010

We headed out Friday night around 9 pm from Fullerton and pulled onto Needles just after midnight. We got a Hotel room and slept until 6 am and meet my sister and brother-in-law for breakfast at the Wagon Wheel restaurant before heading over to the staring point of the Mojave Road on the Colorado River.

Mile Zero on the Colorado River

Fort Piute

A short side trip to an old corral

The old school bus

The weather was perfect

Camping at Mt. Beale

This was the last shot of our tent before a huge wind stated blowing and ripped it to shreds. The rooftop tent surprisingly did very well and had no damage at all.

My sister’s rig (Moyo) on it’s first offroad adventure got some desert pinstripping.

Exploring Marl Springs

On the summit

Logged in at the mailbox and left our frogs

Heading down to the lava flows

Moyo leading the way

The soda lake was too wet to cross so we turned north and followed the edge of the lake around toward Baker and had lunch at Bob’s Big Boy.

We had a fun time despite the winds.

Hey Eric - yeah, the winds just came up in the afternoon and were gone in the morning, but now we know how the Kelso Dunes got there.

I have camped in some strong winds out in Anza Boreggo, but those winds on Saturday night were something else.

I was out at Cougar Buttes (Bullfrog) on Saturday and it was a bit windy there as well. I have'nt run the Mojave trail yet but it's on my list of trails to run. Looks like a good time. :)

Great photos Vince. Brought back memories of that road! We were just chatting about having another Mojave Road trip last week when we had dinner at Knotts. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx installed.

Thanks to Peter (HollywoodFJ) for doing it all for me, it's really clean, simple and works great.

The unit is hardwired in and has power to the unit even with the key out/off.

This will allow me to keep the unit on when stopping along the trail without having to boot it up each time.

I just have to remember to turn it off when done for the day.

Got my front bumper all straightened out.

It was just real loose from over 80k miles, and was a bit crooked.

I went to a shop near me - Rock-Tech Offroad - and had a very pleasant experience with Chris.

He is an old school fabricator with a black belt in International Scouts, and has loads of experience with every other kind of 4x4 rigs as well.

Anyway, he installed my new Lower Control Arms and straightened out the bumper for me.

I will be going back to him again.
