I'm going to start keeping a log of my fuel mileage and expenses; this is as good a place as any to do it.

Fuel light came on at 268 miles.
Gassed up at 287 miles
15.322 gallons of 87 octane at $3.759/gal. = $57.60
18.73 mpg
$.2006/mile

Note: automatic fuel cutoff on pump failed and I probably filled it fuller than usual.

if you post the records right away it looks like you fill up about every week and a half or so. I just wish i knew your driving style, lead foot wise ;) this is an awesome thread though. thanks! :bigthumb:

i bet if you filled it with premium you'd get better mpg :)
Nope. I have done several multi tank comparisons, and using premium just doesn't pay.

I've been driving with a "soft" foot with these last 3 tanks. It's paying off with increased mileage.

i have done the same with comparisons between 87 and 91 and found i get 2-3 mpg better with 91 which equals out to me saving money to fill with 91. granted it saves me $2-$5 a fill up, but in the end it adds up. i only put about 15k miles on the fj a year though and will probably put less if i end up moving.

I found out the same exact thing. So premium stays.

I've kept mileage logs on all my vehicles for many years. Pays off in lots of ways. My experience is similar to yours. Does your vehicle have a roof rack? What is your estimated average speed?

I've been driving 60-65mph on my 40mile commute and getting 19-20mpg. I have an '08 SE with all Toyota equipment (rack, light bar/air dam, bumper lights, 4WD, front and rear skid plates). Keep rpms below 2000 for best mileage. If you go off-road, change your air cleaner a lot. I'm running my tires at 40psi.

What's interesting is when I got the truck I never believed you could get 20mpg, even though people said they did. I'd get 13 off road, 15 around town, and 17 on the highway. I was NEVER lead footed, but I did drive 75mph usually. Its amazing what giving up a few minutes commute will get you
