...but as long as we're havin' fun, I'm saying "Fat Jugs", because we haul those with ours...occasionally!

Once a Jeep owner gave me S**t saying that....

Once a Jeep owner gave me s**t saying that my FjCruiser was just a copy of the original FJ40 which was just trying to copy a Jeep. So I told him that his Wrangler is also a copy, because the iconic Jeep was made by Willys, and the present day Jeep Wrangler is not made by the same company nor does it even resemble what the original Jeep was mechanically; only (vaguely) in looks. I admitted that my car WAS a copy of a copy but that at least it was made by the same company that created the first copy - a company that happens to have been selected to make the original Jeeps for the US military to be used in the Korean war, and is still today the most reliable car manufacturer in the world.

Mind you I didn't say this to him with any sarcasm or hostility, since I also think the Wrangler is a fine vehicle, but nevertheless it kinda shut him up.

F is for the engine type, originally anyway. FJ40 engines were stove bolt copes of GM engines of the era. But they designated the inline 6 as the 'F' engine. Sorry if this is duplicated I didn't read through 29 pages. J for jeep type vehicle I always thought, or frame type anyway.

Interesting! Thanks for the history lesson. Love my FJ Cruiser... 6 speed manual, lifted. Wanted one for 8 years. Mine is a 2007, and loads of fun to drive.. voodoo blue. Thanks again!

What does "FJ" stand for?

It's almost 1am on the east coast am I'm mesmerized reading this frickin' post.

I love this forum and our passion.

I believe the Korean War story (and the nickname GIs gave it), but in summary (and in the hour+ of reading this on a smartphone), I'm incline to believe the engine and frame designation is the heritage of our glorious rigs' name.

Long may our '07 to '14 FJ Cruisers last and hopefully be as legendary as the FJ40!

Cheers!

I keep being told FJ="Fake Jeep"

My Father is an avid jeeper, owns a JKU and two CJ's. He's even president of his local jeep club. Ive grown up Jeep and even owned a couple of Cherokees. When the new FJs came out i fell in love with them. They always seemed to be out of my price range. But now I just bought two!! All that being said my Father likes to joke around with me(because I know deep down inside he does appreciate the FJ) and hes constantly calling them the "Fake Jeeps" Im sure it happens a lot on the trails and in the off-road community, because what fun is it if we can poke at each other a little bit? But how sensitive are we in the FJ community about the whole "Fake Jeep" thing? Im the kind of person that likes to take the wind out of other peoples' sails and poke fun at myself first. So i was thinking about just embracing the "Fake Jeep" thing and printing off #fakejeep stickers and putting them on my Blue FJ because i have a weird sense of humor. I just don't want to end up being an outcast from the Jeep community because i have an FJ and be outcasted from the FJ community because im poking fun. Also I think it would be super awesome to out-wheel a jeeper with a big fake jeep sticker on my window!:rofl:

I would say no.
Be proud of your FJ and have a thick enough skin (sounds like you do) for the times you get ribbed.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to recover jeeps as well and get your jabs in as well.

Just my 2 cents.

If the Jeepers or the FJ crowd outcast you for a funny sticker, they wouldn’t be a fun crowd of people to play with anyways. I can’t see either of them doing that because off-roaders tend to be a fun, laid-back and helpful bunch. Poking fun at each others rigs is part of that fun. Jeepers are usually great guys, and judging by the great souls on our forum, the FJ crowd will “get it” and chuckle...now if your really want to have your balls busted by the Jeepers, make yourself a “_uck _eep” sticker and take your lumps .
