I will be pulling a trailer and dune buggy which is about 3000 lbs in my 07 automatic fj. Up and down some hills too. What gear should I be in? Just D?

You are correct, keep it out of overdrive. I would also think about adding an additional trans cooler as well. A hot trans is an unhappy trans!

Well I'm going tomorow so I won't be able to install a cooler in time. Only about an hour drive. So just keep it in drive right?

Stan said to keep it out of overdrive, so I would think that would mean to pull it over to 4. When you leave it in D you get overdrive, so, 4 should be adequate. Personally, as long as you're not getting crazy with it, I would imagine D would be fine on the straight aways.

The owners manual states to keep it in 4th if you do any towing.

I must have glanced over that page. Hopefully I will remember that the next time I tow something.
