I just wanted to send out early note about our 2016 Ghost Town event called Wild West. Kyle finished up the website today. Registration opens on 1/9. We've mapped out some awesome trails and if that doesn't suit you, there's hundreds of miles of trails to explore on your own. If you do not camp, lodging is limited as this is a real old west ghost town. Herb, the owner, has some restored cabins for rent and there are a few rooms just north in Goldfield.
I won't make this, but it sure looks like fun. I did some of my first motorcycle off-road riding from Gold Point down into Death Valley. We used to have an annual January event in Beatty that I would attend each year. It was always a challenge just to get to Beatty from my home in the northwest. But it was always worth it.
Nice for you to arrange this Nick. Pretty cool that all the proceeds go to the town. I took a crew up there 4 or 5 years ago, very interesting. Have fun.
We ask that you pay when you register. #1 , it helps us keep a count on how much food Herb needs to buy and #2 , we're doing a meal ticket since we are paying Herb in cash up front so we won't have any worries when everyone arrives. This is a real ghost town. The food has to be shipped in before the event. :rocker:
Hey Nick,
Looks like great fun and community. Tell me please, I remember you or someone going deep into a mine shaft with barely a turn around at the end. Is this in the vicinity? If not, where is that located?
If I can make it due to financial and earning constraints, I will be cross country from deep south Florida. So a few hundred mile detour to experience that adventure would be practical. I would probably visit family in Los Angeles at that time (although they have really thin parking spots and I hate door dings #%$@!)
Possibly, I am way out of line as to proximatiy and geography. Please advise.
I need a little adventure and vacation in my life.
For those planning on attending the Wild West event, you HAVE to purchase the meals as part of the registration or you will most likely NOT get food. We have to be able to order food based on the number of people that have paid. There will be a very limited number of meals available for purchase to those not paying during registration. Keep in mind that this is a real ghost town and food has to be shipped in. we added the meal options in the registration in order to eliminate wasted food at the end. Registration | Wild West
FJPDX, that would be great. By my calculation it will take about 14 to 15 hours to get there. I was planning on a to day drive there and back with some site seeing on the way if possible. If that works for you, it would be great to hook up.
What kind of weather does one expect in that area at that time of the year? Night time camping temperatures to be expected (understood, not guaranteed)? Would be interested in camping.
Thanks Voight, Vegas. This is sounding very enticing. Lets see what mischief I can get into traveling to/from Goldfield NV. Bound to be some tour-type caves to see somewhere along the route.
Man, you can't beat the Goldfield area for fun! We drew out some range circles from Gold Point in 25, 50, and 100 miles. The trails and such are too many to count!:rocker:
Nike. I have a friend who will be riding along with me. No extra vehicle, just her, is there a fee for another person? Or do I just register her for the meals?
I'm so exited to go! I hope May doesn't take to long to get here :blueblob:
Just signed up! So far just planning on going by my self. If anyone going from the ventura county/ LA area wants to drive together we could do that hit me up.
Nick, is this an annual event. Definitely interested in joining you and the extended group on a weekend of exploring. Just that this year isn't going to work out for me.
This sounds like a fun time and a good way to meet some folks in the community. I'm in! Just registered, looking forward to it! This just may end up being my first official 4wheeling trip since getting the FJ. Thanks for organizing!
