Had an epic day today exploring the high country. Found a lot of snow but the day was perfect. Upper 60’s, not a could in the sky, no wind. Went up Yankee Boy Basin first. Then went down to Silverton and took County Rd 2 up to Animas Forks. Last went up Hurricane Pass. All of these were basically drive to where the snow blocks the road then hike in. Going to post a few pictures now.
This massive washout was the main blockage on Yankee Boy.
That is Corkscrew Pass right in front of the FJ. Surprisingly Hurricane is open almost to the top. I was tired of sitting in the car at this point so I parked here and tried to hike up Hurricane. Didn’t quite make it.
Last picture. This is looking down from where I turned back on Hurricane. You can make out Corkscrew and maybe the FJ if you zoom in. I made it pretty far.
From what I read they are planning to do Ophir first starting in mid-June followed by Imogene and then Black Bear. Ophir is open to the Summit from the 550 side. Here is a picture of the entrance to Imogene and it does not appear they have started anything on it yet. I have not heard anything on Poughkeepsie. If I had not broken my strut I would have done some more exploring today but alas I am grounded.
We were on Yankee Boy Saturday, could not get near the switch backs, drove thru cut path of 10 foot drifts. Actually had snowed there earlier in the day it appeared. A lot of avalanches on the way up. This area appears to have really been hit hard with them.
Hey everyone! I decided it would be cool to have a thread where I can post up pictures and details of all the major FJ trips/trail-runs I've been on. :bigthumb: I got my 1st FJ Cruiser TRD SE in April of 2011 but it wasn't until about a year later that I REALLY went on my first off-roading trip...
I know most of you on this forum concentrate on which wax rejuvenates your FJs soft, delicate skin and polishing your fake beadlocks so I decided to go 4wheeling on your behalf. Decided to go iron out some boulders in the 3 ton pig. Video coming soon.
Corral Hollow Trail
This is one of the trails our 4-wheel group in Crested Butte does every year. Fortunately none of our group has experienced anything like what happens here around the 5 minute mark:
Gaspe is a peninsula in eastern Quebec that sticks into the Atlantic Ocean roughly northeast of Maine and North of New Brunswick. My wife and I went there from CT in the FJ for 10 days in August to explore and scope out possible future trips in the area. No camping, no cookouts, very civilized...
I have a build page for the Mule, and I was filling it up with photgraphs from my adventures. I decided to make this thread instead so my build page can focus on the mods I do to the Mule and my adventures can go here. You can read all about the Mule on my build thread, I won't go into those...
