Dealerships coating mine today, free replacement for the next 5 years if I get a chip or crack...thought it was worth the extra 457 bucks.

Coating it with what, please explain!!! What dealer as well??

mines 15 months old and still no cracks. *knock on wood*

just BILLIONS of tiny tiny little mini glittered all over the windshield chips.

they just blind me when the light hits the windshield from an angle. :(

Not really sure what exactly they're coating it with, supposed to prevent chips and cracks. It's something that GO on Arapahoe offered to me when I bought the truck. I talked to geico about adding windshield coverage to my insurance policy but they don't offer it in CO, only thing they offer is free repair or pay your deductable to get it replaced.

Go aftermarket. I had a marble-sized rock hit my windshield yesterday in Tahoe and it bounced right off rather than make the usual spider crack.
I saw it coming and thought, "Here we go again." but nothing.

Out here in New Mexico the sand and dirt have blast my windshield. I have had two chips repaired and I hate driving the FJ looking into the sun because it is hard to see through. When I do replace the windshield, I hope my replacement windshield will hold up better. And don't get me started on the paint chips..chris

If you don't have full glass coverage on your insurance policy, I've heard prices ranging from $800 to $1,100 parts and labor.
Exactly, in CO Geico won't even offer glass coverage, only company I found that does is state farm who's rates were 30% higher. When my windshield chips or cracks (and it will, I live in CO) I get it replaced for free. And when that one cracks, I'll get another for free and so on for the next 5 years.

I just took my first freeway trip (only 1 1/2 drive) and the odo just turned 600 mi - a crack and a chip happened within 15 minutes of each other.

This is ridiculous. Brand new car, cheap glass. I had my Jeep for 5 years before I got my first crack.

I'm kinda bummed.

Welcome And Sorry Bout The Glass

I think it has alot to do with your areas road conditions, and snow/ice removal system, as well as the type of ground (rock/dirt/sand). I think illinois roads are horrid, but we use salt, which is horrible for the rest of the car, but easier on the glass. Either way, a gravel truck can be a windshield death-sentence in any state.

29,000 miles and just replaced mine! $1000 from the dealer!
