I get a very slight rub, but not at the usual spot. Mine is only on the right side, only in reverse at full lock backing toward the left side. That is all. But not at the body mount. It is the FRONT black fenderwell at the bottom where it curves under toward the front. And that with 2" on the front. These do have a lot of tread wrap around.
So if I am reading this right your getting a very slight rub in rev. but you have a 2" lift on the vehicle. So with NO lift I will probably have a problem with some rubbing.:mecry:

Finally I found a post that says they will fit with out a lift kit. I just added bushwacker flares and that gave me about another 2" of clearance. Will be ordering a set+1 this weekend for mine and stage one will be complete.

I'm doing an aggressive BMC this weekend and will be putting 285/70 r17 Duratracs on soon so I'll be happy to let you now for sure.

I'm running 285/70/17 duratracs no rub no bmc and it was fine without lift I only have leveling kit on It now. I was worried about the same thing when I got my tires. My advise get the tires from someone like discount tire and be prepared to do a bmc if nessisary. Worst case discount will take them back if they rub that's how I got my spare someone bought a set of mtr and they rubed. Discount took them back then sold one of the newish less than 100 miles tires for 100 bucks installed. Nothin but good things to say about discount.

I searched a million threads on this and went for it... For the record, Nitto Terra Graplers 285/70/17 on (my) stock 2012 FJ do NOT rub under normal conditions. I have not hit the trails with them yet but i am guessing it will be fine on all but the most extreme angles...

This made me want a lift bad...

^^^Update for anyone who is looking for more information... I installed 1.25" spider trax spacers and had horrible rubbing. Did the BMC last night and all is well...

285/70/17 duratracs will fit a stock fj. You will get some minor rubbing at full lock though. I ran these tires with stock suspension for about 2 months. Just got a 3" pro comp lift and now I've got a totally different rubbing problem. At full driver side lock the tires rub on the oem skid plate and they rub hard! Haha the shop I took it to did something to the bolts because I can't take the plate off. I'm going back in tomorrow to work this out. But yes 285/70/17 duratracs will fit stock suspension with a tiny bit of rub at full lock

I know this gets old but I am about to purchase some new tires. I have the level 8 Guardians with stock suspension. Can I run 285/70R17 or will a chop be necessary? Would you guys recommend P rated or LT? I will be going with the Falken wild peak or the destinations AT.

Every FJ is different but the 17x8.5 ET-6 Guardian mounted with 285/70-17 tires shouldn't rub. If it does, you can perform the BMC or try adjusting the caster (positive) for extra clearance.

I plan on picking up some new tires this week. Right now I am running the 265/75 R/16 tires which matches my spare. I plan to upgrade to the 285/70 R16 and would like to replace my spare with a matching tire size

Will this 285/75 R16 allow tire allow enough clearance for the rear door to open and close?

After you did the BMC how much room do you have? Do you have a leveling kit? The truck look a little low in the back is it loaded down in the pictures?. Thanks
After the BMC at full lock I have about 1"-1.25" ( I'll try to grab a picture later).
For reference before BMC and spacers I had about 1/8th" between wheel and mudflap, after spacers it rubbed really badly even after mudflaps were gone...

No leveling kit just loaded with normal recovery gear and 1st aid but nothing crazy...
It is not on level ground in the picture and the rear is a little tucked on that side to compensate for the other side being flexed in the mall crawler fashion :jester:
