Antenna Replacement

The OEM antenna has the benefit of being a vehicle height gauge for the driver. The antenna is just slightly taller than the roof rack. If the end of the antenna just barely touches something, then the roof rack will be very close and you better get out and check before there is trouble. If you put on a short antenna, you lose this function.

The antenna wrench is Toyota part number 863A2-0C010 if yours has been lost.
Mine looks like above. New antenna will not screw in. It looks like 1/4 inch down is a piece of the old antenna screw that was broken off?

That is the antenna mount left on the vehicle, not the base of the antenna mast. The actual antenna has a male thread that goes in the hole from the top. If the threaded piece of the old antenna is still in the hole, try using a left-hand threaded bolt extractor, like an "easy-out" to remove the leftover piece. Maybe procure the new Toyota antenna mast first so that you can see how deep it goes so that you don't drill the hole too deep for the bolt extractor.

The top of the hole looks a little bent, probably from the accident that broke the antenna off. It may be necessary to clean this up some to get the threaded part out.
Hey thanks. It’s no accident, I think someone was unhappy with the previous owner. I just got this 07 two weeks ago. Working through growing pains. I used to have a 2010 still kicking myself. I have a new antenna, the oem long one. Yeah, it’s a pretty long screw. Thanks again my friend.
