I don't think the spring force on the accelerator pedal is excessive on the FJ. If you are referring to having to press the pedal further than some other cars, this is a nice feature of the FJ. Toyota gave it a very progressive pedal so that small throttle openings can be controlled more easily for smooth control at very low speeds. When you are in 1st gear, low range, and trying to be smooth, the slow pedal taper is appreciated.

Some vehicles give you most of the throttle in the first quarter inch to try to make the vehicle seem powerful. With the FJ, you have to actually put your foot down a good ways to get most of the power. Does the FJ accelerate OK when you press the pedal all the way?
