I would like to know if any of y'all have replaced the headrests for thefront seats. Back too i guess, but moreso the front.

I really liked the rests from my old 1998 rav4, and they fit... Technically. Right width apart, just the indexing poles (or whatever they're called) is the wrong diameter so the fit is a wee bit loose.

I like their style, and i like that they're cloth like the rest of the seat. I also liked the hole in the center, which made a pretty good centering point for my helmet. I dont know if theres a fitment standard amongst headrest indexing poles spacing and diameter but if there is please enlighten me so it can make searching for them easier. And lets see some pics of what ya swapped the OEM ones for.

Also, im aware that headrests are a safety item to prevent whiplash and not actually a headrest. Ill be keeping in mind their function as well when searching for some.

Luckily, Toyota has used a 150mm pitch distance between the two stays for a very, very long time (since at least the end of the '80s).

Unfortunately, as regulations have increased the requirements for energy the stays can absorb during a rear impact their diameter has been increased. Back at the turn of the '80s~'90s their diameter was 10mm. By the FJ time they were 12mm and the modern Toyotas now use 14mm diameter.

One idea, if you want to continue using your '98 Rav4 headrests, with 10mm diameter stays, is add a 1mm shim around their perimeter to take up the slack to fit them snuggly to your FJ 12mm seat holes.

Another idea would be to take your FJ headrests to a trim shop and have them custom fabricate new ones using the original stays/structure.

started printing a sleeve for them last night to test this. Has indexing notches in it too. Thanks for the info on the specs for them, and the actual name of them too lol. It'll help alot in finding the right kind of headrests.
