Hi all, so I'm currently running 255/75/17's on a 2" lift with a modest BMC. Has anyone squeezed on 255/85's or maybe 255/80's without rubbing? Would it be better to upgrade to a 3" before attempting?

It's funny this post is active right now, as I was just in a 4x4 shop. I was talking over a build between your two sizes (255/80r17), on (to be new) 17" wheels with a -12mm offset. The tech was pretty insistent that this combination of events would rub sometimes even with a BMC. I find this a bit confusing, TBH. I should mention that this is one of the more active 4x4 shops in my area (Trick Trucks out of Chantilly, VA). He also wasn't too enthused with the 255/80 on a 9.5" wide wheel, and said due to the width of the wheel the tire would bulge funny.

I came in here to discuss this and get some feedback because I'm kinda a dummy on this stuff. In fairness a good number of the FJ Cruiser on 255/80 pictures on the net do have the stock wheels without an offset.

When I bought my 13 Fj it has a 1.5 body lift and a 1.5 spring lift as far as I can tell that I run Bfg's 12.5x35x 18" Tires and wheels on it with slight rub at full lock and just live with it as I know what to expect from the front axle. There maybe spacers on the rim's also. It works fine for me.
