Metra ASWC-1 or Maestro iDataLink Steering Wheel harness? Which one should I buy?

I plan to install a Kenwood DNX890HD head unit in my 2011 6 speaker FJ and was wondering which steering wheel adapter to purchase, either the Metra ASWC-1 or iDatalink Maestro ADS-MSW.

I'm leaning toward the Metra adapter because its plug and play and does not require splicing when coupled with a Metra add-on harness; but I read that only left side steering wheel button functions are retained, and not the phone pick up, hang up and push to talk buttons? Is this accurate?

There isn't too much info on the iDatalink Maestro adapter when searching the forums. Are all stock steering wheel buttons retained? Is there a plug and play adapter available?

Also, can the Metra TOYOTA 5 PIN USB ADAPTOR (Stock No. AX-TOYUSB-2) be used to keep stock USB function? Has anyone tried before?

Here's a list of what I plan to purchase so far. Do I need anything else?
Kenwood DNX890HD Head Unit
Scosche TA2076B In-dash Receiver Kit
Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness
SiriusXM SXV200V1 Tuner
Metra ASWC-1 and Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter
or
iDatalink Maestro ADS-MSW

Not sure will work:
Metra TOYOTA 5 PIN USB ADAPTOR (Stock No. AX-TOYUSB-2) ???
Shark Fin Antenna Adapter, SFA12M???

This is my first experience with anything car stereo, and while I have done hours of research, any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the Metra and it worked flawlessly. Had no issues.

I also recommend getting the MEtra Dash Fit kit over the Scosche. While I have the Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS, I found the Scosche doesn't fit well. The AVH-X5500BHS didn't fit in it.

You should also look into the Metra 70-8114 turbo wire harness. It will wire up the AUX port under the cig port.

Does your FJ have steering wheel buttons on the left and right side of the steering wheel? For example, volume control and mode on the left and phone control and push to talk on the right? If so, can you confirm that all buttons work as stock function with the Metra adapter?

Thanks.

I just installed a Kenwood DNX890HD with the Maestro iDataLink and it works great. I had it flashed at the store I bought it from. The previous radio in the FJ had a metra unit I believe and for some reason I could not use the phone function buttons on the steering wheels with the Sony radio. Do some home work on the metra.

Thanks Nodintree.

It looks like I will be getting the Maestro instead. I haven't seen anyone post that the Metra adapter retains all steering wheel phone button function. Too bad with the Maestro adapter there isn't an adapter harness for plug and play without splicing like there is with the Metra.

Also, since you purchased the same HU as i'm planning to, which dash kit did you purchase, Axxess or Scosche kit, and how's the fit? How do you like the HU?

False. This is only true if you do not instal a AWSC or iDataLink.
This is new then because I know of no one that has got the steering wheel phone controls to work with an aftermarket HU using a module. Software update?

It seems from what I read you can manually program the Metra unit to work with the phone buttons but it can be hit and miss depending on the HU.

Worked great in my wifes rig but figuring out the wires is tricky.

They don't tell you the wires you are looking for are in 2 seperate looms.

I got the Metra ASWC-1. Yes all buttons and including phone work.

Mine had be on the shelf a while ( note ship date ) so I had to update the firmware on it. This is suprisingly easy and has a usb plug on it. Newer shipped models don't require this.

The only tricky part was the wiring. You have 3 stereo plugs. There are 2 wires you need to tie into and they are both on seperate looms. The instructions are a little off. I had to call and speak to a Meta engineer to determine this ( There engineers are supprislyn good customer service and easy to get on the phone as well ). They said they would fix there instructions but it doesn't appear to be changed on there web site.

Mobileone wanted a fortune ( to me at least ) of like $400 to make it work. Honestly if have the rite instructions its really easy. If you get this one PM me and Ill get you the correct wire scheme.

Someone said the Idatalink worked great so I tried to look it up:

iDatalink - Maestro - Maestro SW

says "No Available accessory" for any model with or without call controlls.

It looks like this unit would be a ton better but can't find it. You might try there customer support line:

Ok, after many many hours of trying to get the Axxess ASWC-1 to remap (45 min waiting for Axxess customer service), I have concluded that with the Kenwood DNX890HD system, it is not possible to remap any button to preset up/down. Axxess customer service said the problem may be with the DNX890HD.

I purchased the Metra 70-8114 Factory Integration Adapter, so it should not be a connections issue.

The steering wheel preset/up down buttons will only work as seek up/down. Also, PTT, On/Off hook buttons will not work as OEM either.

I may have to buy the Maestro unit and try, as this is a deal breaker for me!!!

Thanks Nodintree. I discovered what you said after going through the Kenwood manual too. However, my steering wheel push to talk and on/off hook buttons still are not remapping with the Axxess harness.

I think i'm still going to purchase the Maestro since you had success with all the buttons working. We'll see how that goes...

I want to confirm that the iDatalink Maestro retains steering wheel control including push to talk and on/off hook buttons. I did modify the Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter so I did not have to cut any stock wires.

Also, the Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter retains stock USB function.

Once again, this is what I purchased and everything is compatible without cutting or splicing any stock wiring:
Kenwood DNX890HD Head Unit
Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness
SiriusXM SXV200V1 Tuner
Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter
iDatalink Maestro ADS-MSW
Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter (Stock No. AX-TOYUSB-2)

I have the DNX890HD with the Metra and the presets don't scroll with my steering wheel controls either.
My response may be a bit outdated but as posted above it is the HU that determines what the arrow buttons on the steering wheel does as far as searching radio presets, stations with reception or just searching. I just installed my Metra a few weeks ago and I was dreading having to program it so that the steering wheel controls work the way I want. On my Kenwood I have to press the seek button to select this and then the steering wheel controls can be used to scroll through my presets.

So eventually what did you end up using ? the idatalink Maestro?
i had some conversations with the manufacture and the best thing they have out now is the Maestro rr for keeping the steering wheel controls . they claim 2 functions per button with compatible radio unit like the DNN991HD Kenwood.
this is what im leaning towards.
