Why do you say that? This isn't the same shop btw.

 

It is very hard to believe a mechanic with any skills would say they can’t adjust a tie rod because it is rusted. For little Joe. It may be possible to be that rusted by highly unlikely and improbable.

I could see it happening but may be unlikely. The tie rod could have maxed on adjustment and bottomed out. I've seen that happen and looks like there is still adjustment left. Temporarily you can apply heat (with a torch) to the threads to break loose any oxidation.

 

I say that because if they can remove it to put a new one , they can adjust that one (unless tie rod has play in it).

I live in the rust belt and have yet to see a tie rod that can’t be moved with a little help from a torch. ( like mentioned already , maybe it’s bottomed out, but highly unlikely).

I agree with others that you're alignment shop simply did not want to put in the extra effort to sort out this situation. In your post, you did not include vehicle year or mileage. Since your LCA's were worn to the point of requiring replacement it's probable that your tie rod ends also have a lot of wear on them and even if adjusted, may have some play in the joints.

Replacing the tie rod ends is a simple job and relatively inexpensive. If it were my vehicle, I would just replace them.

 

Replace them yourself and consider another alignment shop.

SOLVED WITH YOUR GREAT FORUM ADVICE ... AGAIN
Sooo ... I took the car to another place, Good Year service place that is, and VOILA they could do it. Thanks for your push back on this and having me try a second place for alignment before I climbed underneath the car again and replaced the tie rods!!!

 

It was hard to dance around your problem without just coming out and saying WTF is wrong. So, if something like that comes up again you know we mean well and there is no need for us the be PC.
