No 4 of course

Here's a bit of interesting background about the old Toyota logo:

"In 1936, when Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd. was launching its first passenger car, it needed a new trademark to commemorate the launch. For that purpose, a competition was held to establish a logo that would promote the company’s vehicles. The design requirement of the company was to create something that will express ‘the feeling of speed’. Thus, the winning logo resulted in the change of the name from ‘Toyoda’ to ‘Toyota’. This was as the Japanese lettering of ‘Toyota’ gave the logo a sleek look and was also chosen because the number of strokes in the Japanese word ‘Toyota’ (eight) was considered to bring luck and prosperity. Although no longer used on products, the original Toyota logo is still used as the company’s emblem and is given to the employees of the company upon joining. "

This refers to the old-school red logo with letters that read like "Teq" thus sometimes referred to as the Teq logo. The letters are stylized katakana letters spelling out TO-YO-TA:

As some might have noticed I am going for the puritan "old school" look, so I am pursuing a version of the new badge that is as graphically close to the original 1936 badge as possible. I got hold of the exact original and have measured the geometry of the letters in order to match the FJCF letters as much as possible. You can see them side-by-side here:

As for a creative way to mount the badge, here's one idea: It's a milled brass ring with five socket head screws and a round piece of material on which to stick the printed badge itself. If the center piece is glass you could in principle stick a low intensity LED behind it for a subtle night-time effect... Maybe too creative for some, but at least it's different and unique.

can anyone give us the inside story about the godzilla, why is it related to the FJ?

"I have a fever....and the fever is more Godzilla!!
Wazzup with this godzilla??

Is it because it reminds people of the Hummer commercial??

YouTube - Hummer H3 - Commercial

or the Nissan GTR that has the pet name Godzilla?

or for all the Jeeps that sported in Godzilla 2000 the movie?

Dragon, I'm sure you've seen the whole nonsense about selecting a manufacturer. The process could have been smarter and more open. I suggest something like a place to post "requests for manufacturing proposals" that fabbers can subscribe to and where registered forum fabbers can post what kind of manufacturing they are able to take on. It'd be a win for all parties if done right. I know more details have to be thought through for the process to work, but consider it... Cheers.

It seems that opens a whole different can of worms that would delay the process. If so desired, we could drag this on until Spring.
The original thread was up for anybody to chime in, and if they didn't see it or did not feel the need to post up with ideas, it cannot be helped.
In my opinion, it is up to Slither and Scuba Steve to choose which company these are purchased from and we'll be done with it. I leave it 100% to their discretion. This is no different than when I provided decals for people (FJCruiserClub). Nobody even knew where I had them made. I just did it.
The end result of a forum badge is how this started, and I would hate to see it get bogged down in pettiness. Let's just roll with it and leave the manufacturer up to the two people who started this thing.
I totally agree, well spoken!

Was thinking about how to avoid the same issue in future (not the ongoing FJCF badge), but you know what, let's just leave it right there.

Look forward to getting my super cool FJCF badge!

We sure do know how to make simple things controversial and complicate them.
yeah, I also miss the good ol' days when we only discussed things we could all agree on, like which is the best skid plate or which transmission - AT or MT - is best for offroading. Nowadays people are just so opinjongatet..opinnjonaided... ok, stubborn about their own opinion

ok, this is probably a risky time to propose any changes to the badge design currently emerging in the lead. So please don't shoot me, I am not trying to muck up the process, only suggesting some very minor changes before the round of final voting. So Volhoo, here goes:

Proposal: Slightly adjust the FJCF letters to get that tiny bit closer to the original japanese TOYOTA logo, like this (my amateur mock-up):

Idea: The wings are intrinsic to the design and I love them. A tiny idea for adjustment would be to go from the current 3 feather design to a 7 feather design, inspired by this pre-1936 Toyoda design but with 7 feathers on each side:

(p.s. haven't tried out how it would look with 7 feathers on each side, if you do try it and it looks awful then just forget the idea).
