There seem to be alot of questions about the Avic-D3, figured we would centralize them a little.
We have had a number of questions about antenna installation, here is how we install the antenna. It can't be mounted under metal, and must have metal under it to work properly (use the included plate/tab). Just pop out the dash speaker and hide it away. Works like a champ and very stealthy. Replace speaker when done :D

Here's my contribution:

when switching back from video via the iPod, you will get the following screen.

You then have to hit touch the screen again, and you will get this up on the screen:

Then you hit the music button, and you get the iPod controls back.

I could not find this in the manual anywhere.

I posted this question in another thread, but I was wondering if you can use the front pre outs at the same time as using speaker level outs? I am wanting to power dash and rear speakers with the speaker level outs and then possibly amp the door speakers using the front channel pre outs?

Haulin Oats... Does Navigation still function while the iPod is playing video since the NAV disc will still be in the unit? Is the iPod video good quality on the screen? I will just be using my iPod Nano, without video. Seems that using actual DVDs in the unit can kill navigation. I might end up buying the regular iPod with video if it is really worth it....good quality video?? Your thoughts? Thanks!

the navigation takes up the entire screen, so there is no real way to have them both going at the same time.

the video quality is ok. I am a bit of a videophile, so the PQ isn't great. The compression on the videos will play a roll in the playback quality as well though. DVDs look alright. I think I might run my AVIA DVD in there to calibrate the display a little better. the first thing I did was turn the brightness as low as it could go, and turn my contrast up a little bit. because it's an LCD, there should be no burn in.

INSTALL HELP with SWIPS!

Someone PLEASE post pics and steps to install the SWIPS unit. I have the instructions from the manufacturer, but when it states I have to put in a resistor on the white wire, I am lost. I have no idea how to do that. Thanks!

I really think that that if you guys at FJ Audio really want this thread to be the authority for Avic D3 info. Then you should publish step by step instructions on installing the SWIP steering wheel control. With pictures is definately neccesary.

I just spent the last two days at Circuit City, having the D3 install done on saturday and the remaining Sunday watching an installer struggle with the SWIPS CONTROL.

To say the least the damn thing is not installed .

We even made a call over to the folks at FJ Audio where I purchased the unit. The nice gentleman on the phone tried to explain the installation procedure to the circuit city installer. Hence , the guy did what he was told and the thing is not functioning.

Fj Cruiser audio claimed on the phone to have done 40 installs already , I would think then that you should have some pictures of the SWIPS install by now.

Forgive my rant but I was told everything from my unit is defective , to the instructions aren't correct. The PAC site has one set of install procedures and certain forum members recommends another. I think that JT's Cruiser should take the lead and get the props for clearing this up.

As they seem to have the highest number of succeful installs and have sold mass amount of the unit.

I don't believe I'm the only one having this problem?

The SWIPS has been my biggest obstacle so far as well. The Headunit install was a breeze however.... and we are VERY happy with it! I have seen two different setups for the SWIPS unit. The one from the manufacturer is different from the one pictured above in this thread....so which one is it? Some pics depicting the install would definitely help.... Thanks!

Ok guys, help is here. I did my SWIPS install last night and got it on my first try. I am only going to show the wiring install, its kind of tough to explain the programming procedure but ill help out as much as i can. This picture however should clear up any confusion of how to wire in the SWIPS.

That should be clear enough for everyone to understand. This wiring is all being done at the steering wheel control harness. It is the only harness left of the three that is not being used. If you have any questions please ask. Good luck.

H2 Many thanks, I would have expected JT's Cruiser to respond as they started the thread.

You stated that the programming procedure is complicated but with this straight setup will you be able to use the stock controls (volume +,- , Track <,> ,Mode) as is . I'm not really interested in any other programming , If I can get it to work the way it was , that will be a blessing.

Thanks again , I hope if I print out the pics and hand to the installer at Circuit City he will be able to follow. My fingers are crossed.

Soccer dad call me ask for JT, (714)848-8489, You only need three wires,
BLACK IS SPLIT INTO TWO, one side goes to chassis ground and the other side to pin 6 on factory harness.
WHITE WIRE GETS THE RESISTOR(brown, green, brown) if you look at the picture i cut the wire and added the resistor.
RED wire gets connected to accessory, ( to make it simple connect this wire to red on radio harness)
The rest of the wires are not use.

I've installed my D3, and am having a few final problems.

1. Listening to FM Radio, everything sounds fine. If i put it on IPOD, there's no low end coming from the rear, but it's fine in the fronts. If i pan it completely to the rears, it sounds like a small am radio, if i do the same on FM, it sounds fine. (i have the factory speaker system with the sub woofer) Not sure about with any other source, which leads me to...

2. I have the pioneer XM receiver. I'm not getting any sound from it. I though the preview channel works without subscription? I just called to enable it, but still waiting for the 15 minutes. The XM part works, and it even shows me the radio id, so it's communicating, just no sound? Possibly no sat signal? Is there anywhere to see signal strength?

Any quick help is appreciated :) I'm down in the garage with everything torn apart right now :)
