I think the 4WD sit 1" higher than the 2wd. Other than that, no visual differences I am aware of.

 

I don't know if you can tell from outside. The only visual cue of course is looking in the window. Next to the shifter knob of course. 4 wheel has the extra 4x4 shifter. I know you know this already Thai, but I'm sure someone was going to ask so I wanted to save them the effort.

They may have done this in an effort to sell more TRD 4x4 stickers at $35 a pop. JK

If i were to get a FJC, then my first mod will be getting the 4wd emblem from a 4runner or Sequoia.

I wonder why Toyota chose not to differentiate between the two visually. Is it to keep the "mystic" of adventure? I think that all other Toyota SUVs and trucks have emblem for the 4wd models.

 

Better yet, use the old FJ emblem mentioned in this thread.

By the way, I have a 4wd in Houston. I was at a dealer this weekend and heard a lot of people ordering 2wd's for their kids. Guess they think its another Scion.

The 2WDs sit noticably lower. I mean lowerrrrrrr. I seen one in Hayward. I parked by it, examined it, about an inch lower. Look for the saging skid plate area. The 4WD lower part of the skid sits even, or higher than the ends of the IFS. The 2WDs skids look similar to the new 4Runners. Or in other words, the front IFS part of the 2WD FJs look like they have a heavy diaper.

 

My 2WD can be differentiated by the groceries and dog in the back, and it will be sitting in the publix parking lot lol !!!!

Hey, I gotta stand up for my 2WD here. I have to admit I have a 2WD version. I am in northern CA, I hit light back packing trails (Yosemite, Big Basin) nothing major. Dont think I will ever use 4WD if I had it...If you all remember I am comming from a 2003 MINI cooper S....But I did test drive both, the 2WD seems to accelerate harder and feels more torqy!

Just seems very, very odd to me that someone could buy an FJ Cruiser without having any idea if it was 2WD or 4WD.
