My 2nd hand 2013 FJ came with an aftermarket Pioneer AVH-1500 NEX sound system with Apple CarPlay (and supports Sirius XM, etc). Has additional AV ports for a rear view camera (which I installed) and an accessory camera which I've attached under the front bumper. Fully adapted to steering wheel controls, speakers, etc. I have no idea when it was purchased or how much the previous owner paid, or if it is available to purchase either new or used. Works great for me.

my first plans when building my sound system was to use the sony 9500 es..

Mind you, i have a full mobile es in the fj from amps to speakers and yes subs( temp sub box for now).

Side note i do have the first mobile es P1,T1,x1..

One thing i found after doing the math is that the floating screens take too much room up on the dash.. No matter how i looked at it. it was rumored sony was going to do a 7 inch mobile es head unit. that would be sold. im currently using a kenwood/jvc head unit in its place for now.

Yes dont get me wrong few on aliexpress are nice looking but i question there long term use vs the japans build ones.

For me, a head unit is almost disposable tech… $500 every 2-3 years to get the latest and greatest cheap and cheerful Chinese head unit will probably be my routine going forward. Tech changes too quickly to lock into something longer than that.

I'm beginning to think that way.

That's how I regard Dash Cameras...

Before you know it, there's a new sensor / lens assembly that renders the previous one obsolete.

Teyes CC3 is a great unit and fit is good. Plug and play. Pioneer and Kenwood units paired with a Maestro can read Toyota canbus info so it shows all 5 TPMS PSI and Temp readings, trans temp, and fuel tank level along with very accurate miles til empty and MPG info. No Android units read the full canbus info wich is why we went with Kenwood 996 and 9906 units.
I don't understand why some of these units come with an entire faceplate with it? Mine is orange. I don't want to change it to black or silver.

To get a larger screen they need to have custom face panels, most can be removed and painted to match the body color.

I like some of these options but don't want to have to replace my magna faceplate? Not understanding why they are sold with those? I didn't really see an option without the faceplate that was a good reasonable priced unit.

As @Glenarch mentioned... some head unit designs have larger screens that require a new faceplate. If you want something compatible with your existing trim piece, then search for double DIN touch screen head units. Those will fit in the space of the old radio without requiring a new face plate.
