Just acquired this Sun Fusion 2007 FJ Cruiser Base 4WD 5AT with +183K this past week. I'm really looking forward to stepping into the vehicle mechanics world and actually performing all the maintenance, modifications, restorations, and upgrades to this FJ. I've always been an electronic technician and was always afraid to work on autos, but my coworkers who are former vehicle mechanics (and are big 4WD Toyota owners/fans) told me that I repair systems way more complicated. So I guess this FJ will be my first toy to tinker with. I got stock sized 265/70R17 TOYO Open Country AT III's coming in next week to wrap around the stock wheels. Just changed out the engine and cabin filters, picked up some mobile 1 oil with a toyota oil filter, and some Denso spark plugs to start off.

Welcome from Oregon.

You've come to the right place. Everything you need to learn about your FJ can be found on this forum. It's a pool of wealth and knowledge from hundreds of experienced FJ owners. The first thing you need to find out is if the auto transmission has had ANY ATF fluid changes. I know I'm a broken record on this subject here, but it's the one component on the FJ that seems to be totally ignored, until problems crop up.

At your mileage, if it hasn't been done, 3 pan drain and fills to start. No full flush. Maybe even drop the pan and clean out all the gunk sitting in the bottom. The filter is just a screen, but it could be replaced or cleaned at the same time. Since this transmission is sealed, no dipstick, a final level check procedure will have to be done. You could even learn to do this yourself and the process is well documented on this forum. (y)

Servco Hawaii, not Toyota North America. Mine has mirror lights and so does every one that I've seen. Even 4 NSSE's made it here. 3 to the BI, 1 to Maui. Those 3 were all purchased by HPD Officers. A few TTUE's made it over too with no badges or dash plaques.

The OP's is probably the rare base model; no mirror lights, no tint, no rack, etc. 🤙

Interesting.

Plenty to study. NSSE is Not So Special Edition. Several of the Green Trail Team models were not delivered with all the Trail Team parts. Oops. TTUE Trail Team Ultimate Edition. Trail Teams were mainly a color concern with the roof and a few special bits any one (like me) could buy as accessories. The Shocks are long past their prime now for example.

Along with the forum resources. Try YouTube - Especially the videos made by a member FJX2000 FJX2000 Productions

Several others here too though

Lots to learn. I'm an original Owner and still find new stuff.

I was told that if the VIN starts with J, that it was manufactured in Japan. I was skeptical at first thinking that it would be strange that they would be building vehicles with left hand drive to ship out. But with some decoding, I find with the 11th position of the VIN that this FJ was built by Hino Motors at the Hamura, Japan plant.
