I have them in leather that is the color of my Fj with heated seats and they fit great as they came with my Fj. Keep them clean and oled they have no smell on them.

Nope, they came with my Fj, First rig I've had with heated seats. They are nice in the middle of winter on this old guy. Who ever had this Fj before me put some $ in it, Borla exhaust, Cold air intake, 18" wheels and tires and a 350$ console lock box and the heated seats and a 2" lift with rancho shocks all the way around.

 

I like those covers and they are mega $$$$, but I would like to install them myself. I was just wondering just how hard they were to install.

 

Not hard at all, I did ours several years ago took a couple hours.

Thanks, y'all -- much appreciated. So far I'm not hearing any irredeemable problems from our forum community. Has anyone even heard anything bad about these? Just doing my due diligence since these involve a significant investment.

 

I have 2 Clazzio sets on front seats, one on rear bench. First set was PVC, cracked early. Second set leather had much higher grade of vinyl, leather only on center panels.

If I do it again it would be Katzkins in their heavy duty all vinyl, tighter fitting, better material. (I have a Katzkin set in my other 4x4).

Hog ring pliers are your friend when doing seat covers.

 

Yeah, I reupholstered my '61 Thunderbird with the hog rings and all. Not terribly difficult, but still, I want to go the easy route with the FJ! 🤠

 

Things have gotten a little easier now days, I get it that old school was more difficult. Mine covers fit great.

 

The only reason I want "covers" is that I want to keep the OEM seat covers intact and on the seats. They aren't worn out and I'd like to keep them that way for resale value in the future, at least when I'm dead or else too old to maintain my beast and refuse to suffer the sloppiness and indignity of having someone else do it.

 

Go for it, There not cheap anymore with the price of everything going up. That last time I looked you could dump 600$ for front and back seats.

 

Right now, it's s either seat covers for the FJ or a new office computer. The office computer takes precedence since it can't be upgraded to Windows 11 and 10 loses support by next October.

 

While we're on the subject, I have one more question about installation -- specifically the upper portion of the rear seats. I'm thinking about the plastic panel on the back. I've seen some covers that draped over the whole seat, including the plastic panel, but that seems stupid since your cargo is bound to tear the covers up once the seat is folded down. May I assume that y'all removed the rear panel during installation and replaced it over the seat cover? And if so, how touchy was that? Thanks again! 🤠

I talked to the Clazzio folks and they told me that you can do it either way. They'd never seen it done with an FJ, but have seen it with Tacomas. So I found this thread on Reddit. You have to scroll through the pics. Seems simple enough.

 

Let me see if I understand this correctly. The Clazzio's cover OVER the OEM seat covers, but the Katzkins REPLACE the OEM covers.

 

Yes, Katskins clip to frame which would be through OEM cover if left in place. That would not work.

 

The only downside I have is the leg bolsters took a bit of a beating and cracked. But to be fair it happened during a winter cold snap with a week of -40F and colder. Surprised nothing else broke.

The rears survived 2 babys-toddlers-kids and the mess they come with a good wipe and conditioner they look as good as new.

 

I just went over the top if the rear seat plastic, hasn't caused an issue for me. Esthetically it looks nicer under the plastic.

 

Well, if the seat cover ever starts showing wear back there, you can easily conceal it under the plastic. Those "seatback boards" are held on by a bunch of those conical plastic clips. You'd have to cut some holes in the cover to accommodate these clips, but it all seems pretty easy. I plan to report back.

 

Thanks to all for your input. Having not heard any dire warnings, I went ahead and ordered a custom set for $699. But I got a discount because I asked about promotional codes and they gladly told me that the promo code "tacomaworld" is still valid for $80 off. (All lower-case.) Since these are custom, I won't get them for three or four months. Once I do, I'll try to post about the installation experience with before-and-after shots. Wish me luck! 🤠

 

Because of this thread I ordered some also. But just black, perforated "leather" as they call it, and only for the front seats. My FJ is black inside and the back seats have no issue needing a cover. And without them covered there will be no issue with cargo messing up seat covers. Still were $360 bucks tho for the fronts that include the headrest and armrest covers.
I have received them and the black matches the OEM FJ black right on.

 

Yeah, please post with pics if you get yours installed. I wouldn't mind something a bit easier to clean than the upholstery as dog hair tends to be a pain to completely remove, even with seat covers. If you have a dog in the car often enough, it seems hair gets anywhere and everywhere, no matter how much you try to keep things covered.

 

This next comment is off-topic, but have you tried Shed Defenders? Basically they're stretchy pajamas for a dog -- they cover your dog just like you'd cover your seats. My daughter has a dog whose beautiful coat sheds mercilessly. These things keep most of the fur inside the suit and off your upholstery. But yeah, I'll try to document the process.

 

I have clazzio in my 2010. There's nothing I can say negative about them. No smell, very durable. People always say" I didn't know these came with leather seats" ..Go forcit

 

... or go with less sheddy dog.

My italian greyhound has very little hair and what he does have is eyebrow dense and matches my carpets.

 

@CaptainVictory I sometimes put PJs on one of my dogs (Staffie) that gets cold during the winter, but I live in the Atlanta so it's way too hot for either of my dogs to wear much more than their collars usually. I do have the Buddy rear windows on preorder and plan on trying my own liftgate mod for the rear hatch glass (going to try a more polished liftgate retrofit install for a stock look), so that should at least help keep them cooler during the hotter months if I don't feel like having the AC running.

 

Good choice, You will enjoy the covers and make your Fj personalized for you. Mine are great with my inserts tan as the body and they look like it was OEM.
