Is my new Android head unit dyslexic?

I just installed the "15in Touchscreen Car Stereo Radio for Toyota FJ Cruiser 2007-2021 with Wireless CarPlay Android Auto Qualcomm 8 Core 8+128GB BT/WiFi/SWC Andriod 13 GPS Navigation Head Unit Dash Kit Replacement Upgrade" from the seller, AINAVI on Amazon.

My truck is a 2014 and I'm pretty sure I have the base stereo setup.

Things went as well as I expected except for one strange quirk, definitely not a feature: When I use the volume knob on the unit or volume buttons on the steering wheel, the levels adjust opposite of what is pressed. As in the down button turns up the volume and the up button turns it down.

Anyone care to be my stere-yoda and share some insight?

See what I did there? :geek:

Press volume up. The volume decreases and the on-screen slider also decreases. Inverse happens for pressing volume down.

Turn the knob to the right, as you do for volume up. The volume decreases and the on-screen slider also decreases. Inverse happens when turning to the left.

If I use only the system UI, the volume works as expected. It is only the physical controls having an issue

Is it set for Right Hand Drive? Maybe you can change it to Left Hand in the factory settings.

Have you tried to do factory reset for the stereo? Or maybe reprogramming the steering wheel controls? It sounds like it’s a software glitch of some type. If you haven’t tried reprogramming the buttons, I would try that first because it’s simple to do. If that doesn’t do it, then I’d go into the settings, and reset the stereo, but you will lose your settings, like EQ curves and radio station presets.

On my Android deck, I was able to unlock the developer options via the hidden menus, for anyone techy out there that knows wants to explore more.

On my Android( I’m fairly new to these Androids being an Apple user )I have to save the settings at the end after programming the steering wheel functions, or else nothing will be saved. So make sure to press “save settings” if you see it on your screen.

I’m also starting to wonder then if you’re Canbus is set to the wrong vehicle? The canbus settings can be accessed in the hidden menu on mine, I imagine its will be the same on yours. If you can get to it, be sure it’s set to your vehicle type. Maybe that will solve this?

It’s quite an adventure figuring out these decks since support is basically nil on certain brands. But for the price I paid, it well worth it for me! In the past, I’ve spent more on a set of tweeters than this deck and its accessories, and I love it.

Canbus is set to correct vehicle I've tried Hi and Low whatever that means.
I have heard stories about wires being crossed on the harnesses from factory, but I don't have the knowledge or patience to track down which one goes where.
It does work so I guess things could be worse

it's been years, but i remember there was a menu in the android setup where you "teach" what each button on your steering wheel does. can't remember how you get there though. if you didn't have to go through that setup process it may have been pre-set (wrong) from the factory. i had a lot of issues with the ebay seller sending the wrong harnesses twice, but he was a great help setting it up. might want to reach out to your seller.
