With winter upon you, how accurate is the dashboard thermometer? Does it even work in below zero conditions? According to the weather report, it's cold over there?

The coldest my FJ has ever been (according to my FJ) is 30 f. I saw that at the pass coming south on Hwy5 near the ca-or border last December.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic of my 30 degree encounter. How low can you go?

-30 is the lowest reading it will give me... in celcius.

EDIT: That's -22 F

(originally thought it was -35C... but found an old picture)

Last winter it got below -35 a couple times.... damn rough on vehicles and pretty much everything and everybody.

For numerous reasons I went with the blue top Optima... 900 cca. I then added another one to the rear cargo area for my ARB freezer and tied it all in to the same system.... so I basically have 1800 cca at my disposal
I still plug in though, too hard on the vehicle to start it at those temps without being plugged in.

My TLC maintained engine temp just fine. I did have the grille covered but don't know if it made too much difference. I had a Webasto fitted which plumbs into the coolant line and will keep the engine warm and heat the cabin without the engine on but didn't keep it running all night, just to preheat before I departed for an hour or so.

Oh and forgot to say it is a diesel engine (KZ-T)

Here's the LC on the MacKenzie River Ice Road, it was a mere -40C here!

ohhh now the challenge is to get outside that range lol. I've been outside that upper range, but I doubted it's accuracy at the time and once we started moving the needle came down a little.

I know all you people back east are getting a deep freeze but if you can believe it in SoCal last week we had 3 days that were in the mid 80`s thought I was going to get sun burned. Years ago I lived in Bay City Michigan and we had a -60 day that was cold cold :)

DATELINE: This morning.

I know this isn't much for Canadian standards, but here below the Mason-Dixon (Nashville), it gets our long johns in a bunch.

I met a Colorado transplant who lives in San Diego. He said when people point out that SD has no seasons, he tells them he can go visit a season, then get back home before the snow shovels are distributed.

Smart man.

It was 1 degree this morning when I left the house and that's about 80 degrees less than where I would like to be. So glad to be moving to Charleston, SC. in about a year. Can't come to soon!

Before I went on my Trip to Alaska a friend said to me "-30C in the sunshine with no wind chill is the best".... he was absolutely right in my view, I'm afraid you can keep your 80F +, I'd rather have the cold

When there's no wind it can be very beautiful at -30 with the bright sunshine :eek:rangehat:

It's one of the things that attract me to winter wheeling. Beautiful pristine winter wonderland.

I've never in my life been in minus degree (Fahrenheit) temperature. I've been in walk-in freezers ... but I don't believe they were near minus degrees. Maybe 20 degrees is the coldest I've ever experienced. I'm a west coast native. It was a balmy 60 degrees this morning while I drank my coffee at the beach.

I'd be trying all those ice tricks that make instant snow or I'd be out romping my 4x4 across the ice. I'd love to visit the cold.
