I may be wrong but your flares fit over the Oem fender flares. I would keep them as I have them and it keeps my Fj sides somewhat clean of rocks hitting the side of my rig.

 

I checked the front and no oem flares were there. I'll check the rear, though.

 

Do you have a auto salvage yard close that would have a wrecked Fj and pull them off of?

 

That's a good call. There might still be one close. Haven't been there in ages but worth checking out.

can search a lot of yards / recyclers.

May have to search a different term like 'fender' or something. Sometimes they have full images of the salvaged trucks for you to see. If you see them being in ok shape in the images, just call the yards and ask...some dont keep the whole truck around very long.


Also, if you havent...make sure the Whackers have not worn a line clean through the paint to the metal below...sometimes happens with those. The OEM white paint is also single stage, so it may wear down a little quicker than clear coat.

 

Ah thanks for that. I didn't know about that website. Doesn't look like they have much in the way of fender flares for FJs, though.

And indeed, i have checked at least up front and can see the paint has been worn through. I have a best bud who owns a body shop so I'll get that paint sorted once I get the OEM flares.

 

How are the Bushwhackers attached to the body? No screws through the fender sides I gather?

 

No, just attached in the fender well itself. What looks like bolts are just faux bolts.

 

That's good. I'd hate to see a bunch of real holes just to hold those on. I'm not a fan of the Bushwhacker look on the FJ.

 

I have a 2014 and was thinking the same thing. Not a fan of the bushwhacker style.

 

I just bought OEM Fender Flares off Ebay not too long ago. Have not installed them yet, but they will replace Bushwackers also. I Raptor lined them before install.
