Hey Guys,

I currently have the OEM Air dam with two Hellas on the roof. The airdam is a big collector of dirt and debris so I was thinking of removing it and replacing it with a light bar that attaches directly to the OEM Roof rack.

Two Questions: First of all, who makes good quality light bars that attaches directly to the OEM rack and gives space for 4 lights? Please post pics!!!

Secondly, is the wind noise totally crazy?

(When I installed the air dam I thought that it would minimize wind noise...not really. But if it is a lot worse with just a light bar I don't think I could take it.)

Thanks,

Les

Very nice. So if I'm seeing this correctly, the ricochet air dam doesn't sit on the roof? Reason I'm asking is that the OEM dam is a big garbage collector as it sits on the roof.
What lights are those?

Thanks,

Les

BTW: That Black Diamond FJ looks awesome!!! :bigthumb:

I am so glad I saw this thread. I received four of those 4" HID lights that seem to be in that ricochet air dam for free about 6 months ago. I have nothing to do with them and have been unsure of where to mount on my new FJ etc - now I have the solution!

My only question is this: How do I go about wiring them.

Gotta be honest I am not a wiring pro and this will be my first major mod to my truck. I read on that original thread there that CNCKart/Brad drilled a hole in the roof and went through the foot of the roof rack ... that scares the crap out of me but I am willing to do it but then ... where do I go after the roof hole and how? etc.

^^^ Very nice! :rocker: The drilling is the intimidating part. I did drill my hole right under the foot pad of the rack. You don't have to take the whole rack off to do this. Just loosen all of the mounts so you can get some play from the rack. You can then rotate the foot pad out of your way to drill. You can pull the a pillar panel and work the head liner down enough to get to what you need to. Place a towel between the head liner and roof to catch any chips. Now it's time to drill! mark your hole location and use a step drill bit. DO NOT USE A TWIST DRILL. I did cause I thought I was cool and was damn lucky not to put a hole through the headliner. Put an appropriate size grommet in the hole and start running wires. After running wires give the grommet a healthy dose of silicone, and bolt the rack down

cnckart, really like your setup for my new '11 TT: but only literally have 2" of clearance over height of factory roof rack and couldn't use any lights that have height above top rail. Looks like those pictured would be too tall? Alternative rectangular lights?

This will be first aftermarket mod and ready to buy! Is A pillar have any wiring from Toyota and can one of "blanks" in lower module below radio (containing A Track, etc switches) be used as this would be a pretty clean install?

A newbie thanks you in advance for any help?

The air dam itself isn't any taller than the highest point of the rack, but the lights are as you noticed. I'm not aware of any rectangle lights that will fit the dam well. Not to say there isn't I'm just not aware of them. There is wiring there in the A pillar, but it's pretty thin gauge. Especially for 4 lights. I ran all new wire. I mounted my switch in an unused blank below the radio.

cnckart, thanks for reply! So there is "prewiring already in A pillar: but not suitable for 4 lights? Do you have an airdam, light mount alternative that does not extend above top rail? How hard is it to properly wire A pillar? Glad to know you used "blank" for switch, which is what I'd like to do!

Please let me know about any alternative light mount suggestions?

Thanks!

I hate to think what the Thugasaur would do to the Pillsbury Dough Boy.
