I needed an additional mobile device mount point in the FJ and during all the Internet searches for a good price on the Nuvi, I found the Pro Fit VSM G3. It's a "vehicle specific mount" (VSM) for the FJ and it's really "pretty cool". Most places sell it for $49.95, but I found a few that sold it for $39.95. This place sells it for $43.98 shipped..

The FJ mount (TY-74-08-G3) comes with the ball mount, a J-bracket extension and universal mounting plate for whatever you want to attach. The nice thing is the ball mount fits the Nuvi series just like the Garmin mount, so it leaves a very small footprint in the FJ..
The installation is very simple requiring no modification to the FJ. The finished installation looked very good, but I could see that it really needed a little notching/channeling to the factory trim strip to really look good. Here's the process..
The parts..
There's on screw at the bottom of the trim strip that needs to be removed. This is after removing the screw and pulling upward on the strip. No "pry" tools are required..
Then just pull it up and away from the dash..
Here's the screw that you'll use for attaching the mount..
Take out the screw..
Attach the mount..
There-ya go..
To really make the trim fit properly, you'll need to notch the strip as shown here.. Only required with OCD installers..
See the little notch...
Snap the strip back on, replace the screw in the bottom and you're done..
The finished product..
See the notch? It relieves any stress on the trim strip and makes the gap look like factory..
And with the Nuvi attached..
Easy Peasy.. Total damage.. $43.98, two Modelo especial's, one hour.. The Nuvi was an additional $343 (Amazon)
I like this mount.. very clean and one less thing attached to the windshield.. Cheers.. Ron
