Anyone know why someone would steel this part of my FJ? And try to get the same part from the other side but probably got caught in the act as there are screwdriver marks...
Thankfully I have my baby fully insured and it's getting fixed, and I filed a police report AND they have a detective assigned to it who is going to view videos from 3 places I
was right before, in broad daylight no less. But it's still going to cost me $500... I hate people!!

Is this a hard piece to get?? Is it worth something to someone??? Anyone know???

Signed...

Thanks for your help! I added it up and it will cost me $300 for parts, paint, then time.. Also, they are sold out of clips.. :( I will just suck it up and have the collision place
do the work and pay $500 ded... and hope my ins premium doesn't go up too much. Just wasn't sure why someone would want those parts. It's not like they are hard to
find. It doesn't help that I just finished 6 rounds of chemo so don't feel very good. It was my first day out and about....

The clips are a 1 time use thing. If they had their windshield replaced and the shop reused they same clips, the cowl panel will fly off at speed.

The passenger side is less prone to go flying because of the antenna grommet.

Sorry to hear this happened to you- it's never fun when your vehicle (and you) are victimized by theft. So often there is so much more damage than just the stolen part.

Sadly I think it’s the case of greed, someone wants that particular part and rather than purchasing it themselves, they effectively get it for free.

Here in some parts of the UK cars are being stripped for innocuous parts on day to day cars whilst parked up for the day only for the owners to return to something like this:

Greed and sadly the quick and easy way to make a living.

When I got my 2007 FJ used, The panels on mine were loose. I read on here that it was an issue if the windshield was ever replaced and the installer didn't use new clips. A lot of folks have had them fly off as people stated above. I replaced my clips and the antenna gromet while I was at it. Someone probably had theirs fly off and decided to rob yours as a cheaper fix. Some people just suck.

I highly doubt it was stolen. At some point in the FJ's life the Windshield was replaced and as ststed above whoever did the window job (more than likely Safelite) didn't replace the 1-time use mounting clips which they are notorious for and the panel blew off driving down the road. Thats what happened to mine. I didnt bother spending the money for the painted one. I personally prefer "the pirate eye", arr arr

That windshield cowl piece is notorious for flying off. It probably did so as you drove down the road and you just didn't realize it. The clips that hold that piece on are horrible and after that piece is removed, for a windshield replacement for example, they HAVE to be replaced. Otherwise its only a matter of time before they fail. So this piece is a common one people have to get replaced as many have lost theirs. When installing it, try to get it correct on the first try, the clips really don't do well after their first time clicking into place.

Agreed likely flew off. Either way its a shame.

Maybe give these guys a ring - they show having a Voodoo Blue cowl, but I dont see the side panels....they may still have the whole truck.

Can try and look up others on car-part.com....I searched 'cowl' but some may have it listed under fender or whoknows.
