From what I have read, the Tahara plant assembles a quality automobile. I believe this is where the new FJ will be assembled. It's reassuring to hear how the Tahara plant is #1 in quality.

"It is the benchmark of benchmarks: Toyota Motor’s untouchable Tahara plant on Japan’s eastern coast. In 2003, for the second year in a row, J.D. Power and Associates bestowed its highest honor — the platinum award for best quality worldwide — on the Tahara factory that produces Lexus and Toyota vehicles.
Tahara sets and demands the highest standards. Toyota, already a stickler for quality, will not accept components if defects exceed 50 per million parts shipped. In contrast, for Lexus vehicles, Tahara managers insist on fewer than 10 defects per million parts.
From the outset, former plant manager Kousuke Shiramizu, now executive vice president in charge of product and product engineering, established that the margin for error for Lexus vehicles would be half what it was at Toyota."

Wow...that makes me even more happy. :D

Toyota is using thier flagship production facility to manufacture the FJ.

They have already stated publicly that this is thier most capable 4x4 and that they won't be beating thier chests and yelling how good it is...they'll let the FJ speak for itself on the trails.

Thankyou Toyota...I am making room at my house for my new FJ

I hope the screw ups are simple, requiring minor repairs under warranty at the dealer. At least thats what I keep telling myself.

Does it concern anyone else that the best plant in the world still screws up 63/100 cars? Damn, Ford even screws up a couple of the cars twice. God love quality expectations.

I bought a new 1995 tacoma reg cab 4x4 (1st year production) and never had a problem with it except for the rear leaf springs - there should have been 3 leafs per pack, not 2.

Other than that, it was a freakin billy goat with its 4.10 gears...never let me down.

I am not concerned :D

Too many Americans couldn't see their toes when the foreman said "Now, touch toes, count of 10, ready, set...1, 2, 3..."

I had read recently (cant remember the source), that amongst Nissans, lowest rated were the ones that were built in the States and that the VWs made in Mexico have more problems than the ones made in Germany. Not that either of these makes have a history of stellar reliability, but it makes ya think that the people building the car are as important as the design and engineering.

Again. . . The FJ Cruiser's are built in the Flagship Factory of Toyota in
Tahara, Japan. . . here is a link

Map of Tahara, JP by MapQuest

You can see the city of Toyota, Japan on this map also by zooming out one level, where the headquarters for the company are located.

Lexus are also built in the Tahara Toyota plant.

You can zoom out on the map and see Tokyo to the northeast.

Hello,

I belong to the world's largest FJ Curiser online discussion forum fjcuriserforum.com . There is currently much confusion as to where the FJ Curiser is assmebled. On Wikipedia they state that the vehicle is assembled in Hamura. There is other info on the internet that says its assbemled in Tahara. Could someone please settle the debate and confirm with %100 certainty the assembly location.

Thank You,

Very Satisfied FJ Owner

That's correct - the FJ is actually not manufactured by Toyota at all but built by Hino Motors on a commission basis. Hino is the oldest truck manufacturer in Japan and makes vehicles for Toyota on commission.
Hino manufactures heavy trucks in the 3 - 11 ton range and buses but also makes smaller vehicles on commission.

Toyota owns a minority stake in this company but it is incorrect to consider a subsiduary of Toyota because I believe it is an older company.

The FJ plant is the Hamura plant in Tokyo and if you go to the Hino website there is even a picture of a blue FJ coming off their assembly line at Hamura. They have built over 10 million vehicles for Toyota.
