UPDATE

I see lots of threads on where to buy Steelies. So... I'm reposting a post I made a year or so ago. The price is still good for these.

17-INCH STEELIES are still available, but according to Wheels Express the are not getting as many now. So, supplies will be limited in the near future.

The business name is Wheels Express. I talked to Gene. They still have the 17-inch steelies for the FJ. The price has gone up to $50 each. He can ship for about $20 a wheel.

His phone number is: 580-476-2531. He is located on the four lane Highway 81 just south of the business highway 81 Y, on the west side of the highway.

cheers,

dale

Dale,

A big thank you! My local dealer could order them, but they were more than what I wanted to pay, so it was great timing to see your post. I ordered a set today with Gene who was very helpful. Will try to get a few pics up when they're installed.
Thanks again, Jeen

New vehicle takeoffs at the port of entry. As you know, Toyota does lots of "installations" before the FJ's are sent to dealerships as their facilities near the ports.

Anytime man! People either love em or hate em! They can be bent back on the trail unlike any other oem wheel. I think they look cool too but not everyone agrees!

So let's just say that I run 265's at present and some day in future might wish to change out to 285's, also add better suspension to do more trail riding, (I should mention here that I plan on owning my FJ until I drop dead).
Question is; if I had some spare $'s right now it might not be the worst idea to buy a set of these baby's for future use as they might not be available forever at decently low prices? They remind me of the old FJ40's and that good old basic functional look, which I admire. Good thinking or sort of dreamy/dumb? Give me the straight dope.

Due to the lack of investment, it's not a bad idea for $350 for 5 wheels shipped. If you like them, and will use them, get 'em. It seems they aren't in short supply in general and I wouldn't suspect they will skyrocket in price. They still aren't the "popular" choice, and most people swap them immediately because they think they are ugly. In reality they are the most functional of all oem wheels being the only steel option, and the only one you can bend back into shape on the trail to hold a bead.

17's. It's a battle in my head. If I had waited a while to decide... (I'm smacking the side of my head now), I would have bought 285's instead. Am I numbnuts to have a separate set of 285's on the steelies and switch them out when I want/need to? Lots o' dough to shell out for a miscalculation. A half measure is to buy the steelies and think about it while I plan ahead for better suspension too, maybe...
You guys on the Forum warned me about planning ahead and mods. It's a disease! But I guess it's a better sickness than many others. More like a pleasant 'habit'. Fortunate for me that I don't have a wife that I have to explain where the money is going, only a girlfriend that has no clue. Still wondering how I'll explain the new rock rails that are coming soon. "What are those?'', she'll say. "How much was that?". "Got it on a 'Group Buy', I'll say. "Wicked good deal", I'll say with confidence.
Hope that works!

A few photos of my new shoes. I was gonna go the lift and body mount chop route, but for what I do, I couldn't justify the cost at this time. So I got these BFG AT 265/70R/17 with the OEM black steelies, and it's made a huge difference in look and performance compared to stock tires and wheels. Very happy with the results! Thanks again, Dale, very much appreciated!

WOrd for the wise: if you pay more than 250 bucks for a set of 5 steelies you paid too much. Lot of peeps know just how bad you want a set and if you do, You will pay double.. ebay use to have a lot of them on there for around 200 to 250$
