For a complete breakdown of what your VIN means:

1st character- Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured.
For example: U.S.A.(1or4), Canada(2), Mexico(3), Japan(J), Korea(K), England(S), Germany(W), Italy(Z)

BMW(B), Buick(4), Cadillac(6), Chevrolet(1), Chrysler(C), Dodge(B),
Ford(F), GM Canada(7), General Motors(G), Honda(H), Jaguar(A), Lincoln(L), Mercedes Benz(D), Mercury(M), Nissan(N), Oldsmobile(3), Pontiac(2or5), Plymouth(P), Saturn(8), Toyota(T), VW(V), Volvo(V).

3rd character- Identifies vehicle type or manufacturing division.

4th to 8th characters- Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.

9th character- Identifies VIN accuracy as check digit.

10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T),
1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3), 2004(4), 2005(5), 2006(6), 2007(7)

11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle.

12th to 17th characters- Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line.

mine ends w/ 3371, so I was the 3371st truck off the line :) (the first 1000 either weren't for sale or weren't produced)
Sweet! I'm number 3904!

We should make a first 5k club lol

Call Toyota USA and ask them to fax you the vehicle inquiry report. It tells you everything you want to know including: order date, build date, selling dealer, if there was any port damage, factory installed and port installed equipment. 1-800-331-4331.

Hummm! I got 1912! Does that mean it the first thousand #s were not sold mine is 912?
I'm fairly certain the first 1000 numbers were reserved and the vehicles built for resale began with 1001 (or maybe 1000).

To certify in the US vehicle must under go testing, and some are crash tested to satisfy safety requirements. I know that Toyota (or any manufacturer) doesn't test anywhere near 1000 vehicles (or 100 for that matter), it would be cost prohibitive. Those first vehicles end up being crushed so they cannot resurface in the real world.

Therefore, you have the 912th (or 913th) vehicle to run through the Hino Motors Plant in Hamura, Japan that was sold in the United States.

Is there a born on date somewhere inside the door or hood?
Open the driver's door and look at the black label on the suicide door. At the top right corner of the label is the manufactured date. Mine is 09/06, which means September 2006. Only the month and year are given; unfortunately the day is not.
