Hi ya'll :) Ordered the Amaesing hood decal this week and was curious as to how you guys and gals are able to wax around it once its installed. Is the easiest way to just run a blue tape line along the black vinyl where it meets the paint or will any sort of tape pull up the decal/ruin it?

Thanks ahead of time for your responses :) My truck is finally a few months old so its probably ready for its first coat of wax. I was planning on doing that and the decal sometime next week.

I have waxed mine a couple of times with paste wax, and just was careful not to get a bunch on my decal. Any that did get on there easily came off

tape around the edges and go nuts with the wax I guess?

Just remove any of the wax you get directly on the decal before it dries and use a soft brush to clean up any of the wax build up on the edge... I use a vinyl protectant on the decals them selves keeping them looking like new and resists water spots also makes bugs come off easier.

Hey jsstritz Sorry for the delay been off couple of days.... Thanks for your ? I am not a professional but I am a bit of a detail freak ... For Vinyl I really like a product called "303 Aerospace Protectant" I use it for almost everything on the vehicle, door and window seals all plastics, vinyls all except for paint. I really like it for the rag on my convertible it is not greasy and doesn't act like a magnet for dust, the finish is mostly Natural unlike Armour all that leaves the glossy oily look, I am sure you will like how this works on your decals..... If I am short on time after washing I always hit the flat surfaces with a detailer like "Mothers" Cali Gold Showtime I also use the "Autoglym" products .... The "303" can be used on tires but for street use the product is not cheap so i don't reccomend it there are many cheaper tire applications if that is something you do. I only do tires when I know I am not going off road for several days, the summer sun is intense here so I like to hit the tires from time to time.
Cheers.

I wouldn't polish the vinyl (with any regular car polish- except whats listed below) on the hood decal otherwise it will defeat the purpose it was intended to be and thats a flat color to not reflect light. Unfortunately- any cleaner product you put on the decal will make it shiny since it polishes it. I used to buff my work trailer to make the vinyl lettering shine. What you want is the opposite

If it gets too shiny you can dull it out with a some Simple Green and a rag- just wipe it smoothly on the get an even coating and keep it off the paint. Wash off when done. - this will "dry out" the vinyl and make it look duller. It could cause streaking so do it with a either sponge or rag but the key is to be consistent with application.

They are now making a polish for matte vinyl

Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer 16 oz.
