I just got the Bazooka for the FJ. I ordered the 8" kit designed for the FJ.

It came with a big wiring harness, two wing nuts, and a template for a SCION vehicle.

No instructions. No nothing.

What the hell do I do?

I have pulled the wheel well cover off and found the harness. It's too short. The harness that came with the Bazooka is about 10' long. It looks like it is supposed to go to the head unit. WTF?

Any insight would be appreciated. I also don't see at all how this is supposed to mount to the side wall of the FJ.

I do not have the OEM Sub woofer.

Ok, well I see how it's supposed to work with the harness.

However, there are two remote options. Do I do 1 or 2? Red or Blue?

Also, do I need to ground it? And, how do you turn it on? I tried both options and with ground and the light doesn't come on. I am assuming the switch on the bazooka is an on/off switch.

Bazooka

It seems as if I am missing the mounting plate and I question if the harness should be as long as it is. It's at least 10' long. Doesn't make sense. I couldn't get it to turn on at all. I am not sure what remote option I should have used.

I ordered it from AMAZON. I am a prime member. I am sending it back. At least it doesn't cost me anything to ship it either way. So, no loss.

I will order it from somewhere else now since AMAZON is now out of them. I also found it cheaper here and they show the mounting plate:

The harness doesn't look right to me. You should have a harness that has a plug for the bazooka and the other end should go to the factory sub plug. There shouldn't be an option. It's also supposed to come with the mounting plate since that's how it ties into the cargo net cleats.

I've ordered from sonicelectronix a few times. I always get what I'm supposed to and usually pretty quick. they seem to have some of the best prices and offer there own warranty on brands they're not an authorized dealer of (though they are an authorized bazooka dealer). It's $230 from sonicelectronix with free s&h

Good find! I looked for that on their site and it seems that the pdf manual they had on the bazooka main page linked to instructions for the rear speakers. Thank you!

There is one thing they don't cover, how to handle the two power options. I read elsewhere that you want the connection made at power option "1".

yeah it looks like you are missing the mounting plate. Also, the short harness comes in the same box as the plate. Tube and plate come in two different boxes.

you were not able to turn on the sub probably becuase you have not bypassed the switch in the switch console. It is really easy. Just pull out the top left blank and tap one cable to the other or better jet, buy the sub switch from one of the vendors to be able to turn it on and off whenever you want.

Mine was not turning on even after the hack so I had to send the tube's amp to bazooka so they could fix it. It turns out the gave me a new amp.

the switch on the bazooka is not a on and off, It is for when you use the big harness and configure it to auto turn on when it senses music (something weird I did not understand)

you do have to ground the sub. Some people had to scratch off some paint to make it work. Moreover, use remote option 1 I think. use the remote option that has the red cable.

let me know if you need me to clarify something else.

I thought it was plug and play. Just plug it in, ground it, and then hook up the "option 1" wire? I never heard of any other wiring. Can you please explain more?

I have the stock non-FJAMMER radio.

Also, will it turn on if the radio is already on?? Meaning, is it a bad idea to make the connections with the radio already on?

with the harness that brings the two options it might just be a plug and play. From the reading I did a couple of weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that before they probably shipped out with a diff harness.

To not make it too hard on you, do this. Turn the SUV off, plug the harness with option 1. Turn the radio on, if no sound, turn off again, try option2 and turn radio on.

The reason behind the two options is beacuse the option# that has the blue wire is for people changed their head unit and hooked up an external amp basically. Now the option# that has the red wire is for people like you that have the stock radio and do no have the remote turn on wire (blue) hooked up.

Sonic is where I bought mine and it did came with the plate!!! I just received my amp yesterday from bazooka and installed the sub. it looks good. I will be taking pictures later and posting them.

Got mine last week from Sonic and mine is dead too.

Working with BazookaSAS tech support to get mine fixed rather than dealing with the return morons at Sonic. I've got a good ground and power to the plug on the back of the tube, so I know all that's wrong is a bad amp. Unfortunately they won't let me just ship the tube back and exchange it only, they insist that I ship EVERYTHING back and they'll send a whole new unit. Personally I really don't want to rip out the harness and bracket that aren't a problem, only to have to reinstall them in a week or so; and probably pay a restocking fee on top of shipping charges since everything is now "used".

seems like alot of these bazooka tubes are shipped broken. it would seem that their quality control is not very good. I wonder how long they'll last in the fj.

I asked myself that same question. Hopefully it'll last quite some time. I decided that if it blows out, I will keep the tube but replace the components with a mini ARC amp and another sub.

For now, it si working good.

Received my Bazooka from Sonic today. Packed well, arrived safe. I will buy from them again.

Soon after, I installed the unit. It took me way longer than I anticipated. Nothing really lined up perfectly and the threads on the bolts all seemed mismatched. Nothing was smooth going in.

Overall I am unimpressed with Bazooka as a company. On the FJ panel one of the brackets was installed upside down. I had to undo the factory bolts and fix it. LAME. There were two bolts missing - The ones to bolt the Bazooka to the bracket on the panel or the ones to connect the L-Brackets to the body. Also, it was IMPOSSIBLE to attach the rear L-Brackets through the panel. I actually gave up on that part and didn't totally secure the Bazooka.

Anyways, I installed it, and then turned on my radio. To my surprise, it worked. I wasn't expecting it to. It's just my luck lately with this crap. Anyways, it worked on the first try but it was way harder than it should have been I think.

The bazooka sounds ok. I am not sure what I was expecting. It is boomy. I guess I am more rock and roll than hip-hop so maybe this wasn't worth it for me. Oh well.

I'm hearing a lot of complaints about these subs and my curiosity has the best of me. Has anyone bothered to ask them why they're not being proactive and pulling these off the shelf to test and make sure the correct parts are being shipped to customers?

Clearly they have a QA issue on their hands and quite sure they know about it. Seems like they don't care IMO.

Mine came with exactly the right parts, it's just dead.

Got my RMA# from Bazooka today and should be up and running soon. We'll see then if it was worth the trouble.

Hi There,
Some years late, but was wondering if you still had the extra main plate around... I sure can use it, given that I just now bought what seems the very last sub of this type for my FJ, but as look would have it, I got the SCION model, therefore without the brackets and main plate needed to mount on my FJ...

A hopeful Eddie

Have had mine now for a week or more and I think it is a decent unit. Not sure if it is really worth the extra effort or cash to install. It seems like the bass that comes out of this thing is not a very good bass sound. At least not for the music I listen to. Most of the good bass I hear comes out of my front speakers. It's just a big thumping sound with no definition or tone.

I don't regret it so much but it can really ruin a good song. :)

I'm not sure now how relevant this is to the thread. But the installtion instructions for the TMS8A-HP-FJ can be found here. http://www.bazooka.com/pdf/current/FJ Cruiser Bass Tube Bazooka .pdf
Leobug there is a knob on the back where everything plugs in to adjust the amount of bass you want. Just got all my speakers in this week and of course global warming set in. And it's now snowing and cold after great weather before I got them last week. Also went with bazooka replacements for the dash and rear corner speakers. And Boston Acuostics for the doors. Just waiting for a little nice day now. If you have yours in fine maybe this will help some others.

Yes, it does.

Also, another thing, this thing vibrates like crazy. Totally sounds like crap when it does. I am gonna have to strap it down or do something beyond what the install kit can do. It's not a solid install. Lots of rattling noise.

#46 ·
I ordered mine directly from Bazooka, and they sent me the Scion kit too. Those people must have their head up their ass. I had them overnight the FJ kit since I want to install it tomorrow with all new speakers and head unit. Also, there was no packaging materials. It's just the tube in a flimsy box. With my luck it won't work when I install it.

A little follow up now on the speaker installtion of the bazooka sub and the other speakers. The bazooka sub installed just perfect with the kit. Ordered it from Sonic with the Bazooka dash and rear pillar speakers. Boston Acoustics Sl 95 6x9's. Waiting on adapter for the door speakers from Tacotunes. Should be here and ready to install before I head to the races in K.C. this weekend. Someone mentioned the long wiring harness that comes with the sub. In the kit it has a short harness that can be wire tied up to make things nice and neat.
After a little tinkering with the settings. It sounds great now. No vibrations without adding any matting after making sure everything was tight and the covers were back in place. Using these speakers with the stock Fjammer only turned the knob on the sub up not even a 1/4 of a turn. Now I have a wide range of music I like. Anywhere from old Iron Maiden, to Tool, Steeley Dan and classical music. It all sounds great now. After I get the 6x9's in there. I'll wait and see if a change in the head unit is in order. Crank it up to 55 on the Fjammer and the windshield rearview mirror is shaking but not annoying at all.

I just got my sub in and hooked up and guess what... it doesnt work. I have a call into Bazooka Tech support and hopefully they will resolve the issue. I ordered the subs from Sonic and I hope it doesnt cause a problem that I'm working with Bazooka directly. Any words of advice on moving this forward?

That's how mine was. Bazooka was great to work with and I only had to send back the tube, and not the install kit or wiring harness, where Sonic wanted everything returned. It took ~2 weeks, but the unit I got back from Bazooka works great.

I replied to your PM, but it's here as well:

As for the sub not working, check and make sure you have it grounded with the loop they provide.

Also, double check that the harnesses are snapped in nice and tight on the sub and the truck.

Make sure the tiny switch on the back of the tube is flipped to the up position and that the gain knob is turned all the way up for testing.

Of course if you plugged in the wrong option cord, check that connection as well.

If it's getting power the green light on the back will come on.

I hooked up my harness and left the sub sit on the floor to test it all before I buttoned it all up.

Everything is as it should be. I wish I had your insight and plugged in the harness to the tube before I started fitting everything. It would have saved me loads of time.
