How's the CV boot look on that side?

Check the inside of the upper ball joint boot too. If you have a spacer lift, I bet it's busted and squirting grease.

I think the OEM ones are gas anyway... I bet it is something else.

Gas charged shocks have just as much oil in them as "non-gas-charged" shocks. The oil is what performs the shock-absorption function ("damping") as it is forced back and forth through small holes in the shock's valving system.

All shocks do is absorb energy from suspension motion, and convert it into heat.

The gas pressurization is just to reduce foaming of the oil, so the damping characteristics stay more or less constant.

 

Brake fluid maybe?

Should still be under warranty - good news there.

 

What to look for? Grease

 

He did say it puddled and stained his garage... I've not seen a car grease a garage floor much.

 

Cleaned it with brake cleaner, drove it, & then dropped it off at dealership. Will know this afternoon exactly what it is.... Will post up. And, I thank you guys for your input!

The dealer just contacted me: Blown seal on front strut. They ordered me a new Bilstein shock. It should be here Monday or Tuesday.

Is this a common problem? Never had a shock/strut go bad on me before...
