Basic cost to rebuild??

If anyone reading this has seen my most recent posts know I am having issues with what I thought was pulley problems & now think it might be the valves rapping. With over 200,000 miles on it one option I'm thinking is a transplant engine from another FJ, but what might be looking at as far as cost to rebuild my current engine? I know this cost could very greatly but just looking for an idea from someone who has done it. Don't plan on doing any labor at all here, just a drop off/pickup kind of thing. Thanks for any type of ballpark estimates here.

I know there is no Engine Rebuild. Only standard size for rebuild. This works only if you have bad oil rings.
Not quite true. The 1GR-FE has only very thin iron cylinder liners, so it cannot be "bored out" to accept oversize pistons. But rarely are the cylinder liners damaged severely enough that the engine cannot be rebuilt, unless the engine was run without oil, without an air filter, or was grossly overheated to the point that the cylinder liners became scored.

A typical "rebuild" would consist of rebuilding the heads, where most of the labor and $ would be spent, new rod and main bearings, new piston rings, and a quick pass with a deglazing hone to clean up the cylinder liners. New timing chain, chain guides, oil seals, piston rings, oil and water pumps, etc. would also be part of the package.

Unless the engine was run without oil, the crankshaft main and rod bearing journals should be fine. You would inspect each journal for diameter, taper, roundness, and scoring or any other surface finish defects. There are five different "standard" main bearing sizes to select from to get exactly the correct oil clearance.

Thanks for the information, most of is way over my head. I'd leave that technical stuff to the shop that would be doing the work. I know this isn't like the old Chevy 350 that could be dropped off at the engine machine shop & picked up a week or so later & reinstall. I'm just wishing I could do something on the same lines with the FJ engine. Well over 200,000 & would love to drive this Truck until the day I die. Not really interested in getting into another truck. What would be the ultimate for me would be to find a decent Super charged FJ engine I could drop into mine.
