Hello All,
I recently purchased a 2010 4x4 for my daughter. While driving the vehicle I noticed that I really have to press down on the pedal harder than my other two vehicles. I’m curious if that’s common on all FJ’s? I see other fj’s driving around passing me up. It could be the weight of the vehicle takes a lot to more to get it moving I don’t know.
Feed back is greatly welcomed. FYI The tires are a larger size.

I don't think my FJ takes any more pedal than other similar vehicles.

One possibility if you "just" purchased it and the previous driver was very cautious, the computer may need to adjust for your/her driving style.
My mother had a Celica GT-S and is a very careful driver. My sister wasn't interested in it as she felt it was a "dog".
After I had it and spent a week? putting my foot into it, the computer switched from economy to performance and became a lot more fun to drive.

Another possibility could be the tires depend on how large 'larger' is. But it could also be something else more basic like plugs depending on miles and services done.

You can do some regular maintenance stuff (easily done stuff) that can improve things a little....

Clean/replace the following:
MAF sensor
throttle body
new air filter if needed
plugs
injector cleaning (I had a shop do this)

At the end of the day.... the FJ is a truck, not a car. It's a body on frame vehicle similar to a real truck. It won't be as sporty as a car.
That being said my FJ (in my opinion) is pretty peppy for what it is.

Is the floor mat properly secured? If it is not, it can bunch up...

I don't think the spring force on the accelerator pedal is excessive on the FJ. If you are referring to having to press the pedal further than some other cars, this is a nice feature of the FJ. Toyota gave it a very progressive pedal so that small throttle openings can be controlled more easily for smooth control at very low speeds. When you are in 1st gear, low range, and trying to be smooth, the slow pedal taper is appreciated.

Some vehicles give you most of the throttle in the first quarter inch to try to make the vehicle seem powerful. With the FJ, you have to actually put your foot down a good ways to get most of the power. Does the FJ accelerate OK when you press the pedal all the way?
