Peel the rubber ring off the housing, the wires go through the center of the ring. Then pinch the clip around the base of the bulb to release the bulb. Install in reverse but make sure you dont touch the glass on the new bulb. You might want to use rubber gloves, the black grease sticks to your hands pretty good.

I'm sorry but I haven't changed the headlights yet, but if you do have the FJ manual, the instructions should be very thorough enough for you to take them out. Again, sorry i couldnt be much of help. :mecry:

Being a forum veteran, I am not sure if you are kidding around, but I'll give it a shot...

I changed out the stock bulbs with the Silverstar Ultras and love'em.

Pop the hood and you'll see a rubber seal around where the bulb goes in. There should be a tab at the top that "helps" you get a grasp of the rubber housing cover.

Pull that up and out and the whole thing should come right off. After that, it is fairly cut and dry, seeing that you can see the whole light bulb housing.

There is a locking pin setup that keeps the bulb nice and tight. Push each side down and away from the bulb and they should slide out from under the latches on each side.

At this point, you just lift the locking pin (which is on a latch and stays put after lifting away from the housing) and gently pull out the bulb. Unplug the current bulb. Be sure not to handle any part of the new bulb and slide it into the connector.

Once it is on tightly, slide it through the rubber gasket pulled off first and gently arrange the bulb back in the hole it came from. The locking pin should slide back down and you push each side down and back under the latches on each side.

Now that the bulb is in place and held down by the latch, you can put the rubber gasket back on by pushing it back into place. Make sure you give it a little push around the sides to get a good seal.

You should be good to go at this point...just repeat for the other side.

Cheers,

one of the new folks

Thanks for the little tutorial. I had to do this yesterday.

When I put it back together though, it went a little different, and I want to make sure I'm OK...

There's no way that I could first connect the bulb to the connector and then slide it through the rubber gasket.

I had to put the bulb in place, close the little spring to hold it in place, then put the big rubber gasket back in place, and then plug the connector onto the back of the bulb.

I don't see how it could have gone any other way.

Did I do something wrong?
