Icon Stage 2 Leaking Oil

I installed a Stage 2 icon suspension kit in the fall of 2016. They installed fine and really enhanced the suspension. In Feb 2017 I began noticing oil on my driveway. After some investigation it was clearly coming from the rear driver side Icon shock. The front driver shock was also leaking although not pooling in the driveway. In May 2017 I began noticing severe instability at high speeds after hitting minor road bumps. At this point the driver side shocks are empty of fluid and not providing any shock absorption. I can rock the drivers side and it keeps bouncing for several seconds. The passenger side does not bounce like this.

It is incredibly disappointing to me for a $2,500 suspension kit to go bad so quickly. I would have been so much better off staying with stock. It looks like Icons have a history of this problem although maybe it impacts all these so called high end shocks.

I've called Icon a couple of times with no response from them. Their service guy in Denver did say he could rebuild them for a fee if Icon won't cover it. I am about to just pull them off and try to get a more reliable product. So disappointed because I burned $2,500 on them and wasted a Saturday installing them. Now I have an unsafe vehicle right as 4 wheeling season kicks off.

Don't give up on ICON. I have run their shocks on several different vehicles since 2009. They have been outstanding... I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. Call ICON (951) 689-4266 before going to a different shock.... Give them a chance to make this right.... If you cannot get them on the phone, you can contact them via email. They are listed as a supporting vendor, you can contact them via PM... IMHO, Even if you have to pay to have them rebuilt, (which would be total BS) it will be less money than replacing the shocks. I would be pissed if my shocks leaked like yours...

I wish you the best!

Update on Leaking Icon Issue. They didn't respond to phone messages but did quickly respond when I filled out a request on their website. They have agreed to cover the issue under warranty. I have to ship the front coilover and rear shock to them at my expense, but they'll repair and ship back to me.

In the meantime I stopped by ToyTec in Denver and ended up with their Boss 2.5 Performance Series coilovers and rear shocks. It isn't cost efficient but I didn't want to be on blocks for a week or two. I also have a couple of trips coming up. I may try to sell the ICON kit once they get repaired.

By the way, the ICON install last fall was my first full lift install and it took me pretty much a full Saturday. I was dreading pulling the ICONs off and installing the Toytecs but it only took me 3.5 hours for the whole truck. I started at 5pm and was wrapped up and riding by 8:30pm. The rears took about 30 minutes each and the fronts took about 1.5 hours on the first and under an hour on the 2nd. I didn't have to swap the rear springs out and didn't change out the UCAs this time so that helped. Bottom line is a swap out isn't a big deal once you've done it once.

When I pulled the ICONs off the rear drivers side shock was 100% uncharged. When I compressed it the shock snapped back open immediately. The passenger rear was still charged but expanded faster than the Toytec I replaced it with. I couldn't test the coilovers as well but the drivers side was oily and less effective than the passenger side.

I haven't really tested them yet but working/charged Toytecs are way better than busted uncharged ICONs. I could tell a difference just spinning around the neighborhood.
