Keeping mice out of the cabin intake.

The FJ started to smell funny. I found a mouse had made a home on top of the cabin air filter. When the car was new I added a 1/4" metal screen under the filter to keep them from getting any further. After reading a bunch of threads I am going to try removing the windshield wiper cowling and screening off the intake. I have most of the fasteners off but now I have two questions:

How do I remove the windshield wipers? The nuts come off easy but the arms are like they were pressed on the stud. I have pulled pretty hard. Is there a trick? There is very little room to use a puller.

How are the two side trim pieces removed? These are the ones just in front of the doors. I believe they have to come off to remove the cowling. I have an old shop manual (circa 2008) and the attachments seem to be different than my 2013. Its tough to see but these side pieces appear to be tabbed into the side of the wiper cowl.

Any help would be appreciated.

I must have fought to get a dozen wiper arms off and never had a clue about a special tool. This was the first one that was really stuck. Amazon has quite a few types. Not expensive either. I am glad I asked. Now if I can figure out how to separate the cowl from the side trim my life will be complete.

Also thanks for the link to the 2011 manual. That should help.

Had mice in my 4runner. The little ****s chewed one of my fuel injector wires. I was told by a mechanic at toyota to put fabric softeners in the engine bay and near the cabin air filter. I guess it worked because they never came back. In the engine bay you just rip up a sheet and tie it to a couple wires or hoses. Then i stuck one under the engine cover/cowl. Replaced about every 6 months.
