Hi all. New member. I love my 2013 FJ. Bought it new, now with 50k in it. Check engine and Trac light came on. AutoZone read the code as P2443, secondary air injection system switching valve stuck closed bank 2.
Easy fix? Cheap fix? Anybody run into this one? Thanks

This is the thread that @Cull is referencing:

I went under the hood, checked all the hoses, writing, and connections, making sure all were tight. No luck. Scheduled an appointment with the dealer. Went out, and on my return tripi noticed the Trac Off and Engine light had reset themselves! Cancelled appt! Must have scared the FJ! Thanks all. Not sure this helps those still in need.

Code will likely return at some point, depending on exactly what caused the valve to stick closed. The P2443 condition ("switching valve stuck closed") must be present for two consecutive driving cycles to trigger the MIL.

In the FJ's secondary air injection system, the air pump is turned on for a short time after a cold start to help the catalytic converters warm up more quickly. An air injection switching valve with an integral pressure sensor is located on each exhaust manifold. The pressure sensor is located upstream of the valve. When the valve is commanded to open, the ECU looks for exhaust pressure pulses, and if it sees none, it assumes that the valve is stuck closed.

If the stuck-valve condition somehow corrects itself, after some number of driving cycles the ECU will turn the MIL off, but that is no guarantee that the valve won't stick again.

Please keep us posted ... I'm very interested, as I have a '14 with 40K miles, and it has exactly the same SAI system.

Correct me if I am wrong but wouldnt the SAI system be covered under the 8 year/80k mile Federal Emissions Warranty? If so, the 8 years might be coming up soon.

Thanks for these old threads! I got the P2443 code today on my 14: one historical and one “pending”. Your explanation of requiring a stuck valve on two consecutive driving cycles explains the “pending” fault code! It was a little cold today but I don’t think that would explain the fault.

Cleared the codes with my Torque Pro app yesterday. I did another two driving cycles today and I didn’t see any faults. It was a little warmer today so I’ll see what happens in consistent cold!
