Question about floor mats

We recently got a 2007 Base FJ. It has the full plastic floor mat. Is this removable? Is carpet typically underneath? We’d prefer removable custom mats like WeatherTech that are easier to clean.

Photos would help us determine what mats you have, but the factory plastic mats used on 2007 FJs have little hooks that hold them in place for the front driver and passenger sides but they are indeed removeable. The rear floor mats and cargo area rubber mats aren't secured by hooks or anything so they should be easily removeable.

The floor is one continuous piece from front to back. It’s attached with Velcro way up under the dash on both sides. It appears to go up under plastic trim on the sides and around the console and seat bases. There’s one hook under each front seat but none for the rear.
I think it’s probably removable but I’m not sure if there’s carpet under it.
The first pic is driver side, second is a back seat, third is the side between front and back.

I think there were initially issues with Weathertech and the factory hooks (maybe that is why it is showing as incompatible. But, I have Weathertech installed on my FJ front and back...no issues.

I see I was confused, what you see and posted pictures of is simply the FJ Cruiser's floor. All FJ's have an all-plastic floor. There are no floor mats shown in your pictures, but FJ Cruisers could come from the factory with either rubber all-weather floor mats or more simple carpet floor mats. The 2 hooks you see in front of the driver and passenger side front seats are what the floor mats hook into to prevent them from moving around. It appears that your floor mats are missing but you were referring to the actual floor of the FJ. It you wanted to get floor mats, companies like WeatherTech sell aftermarket floor mats but you could also possibly find someone selling their factory floor mat set either here on the forums or on eBay.

Underneath the FJ's floor as previously stated is sound deadening material, but no carpet or anything like that.

On the weathertech site, 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser | Floor Mats - Laser measured floor mats for a perfect fit | WeatherTech, they say “The FloorLiner is designed for vehicles with factory carpet installed when manufactured. They will not fit vehicles with vinyl floors unless otherwise specified. Please take your old floor mats out before installing your new WeatherTech FloorLiner.”

I took that to mean they won’t won’t work for mine. Am I incorrectly reading this?

They should work just fine because the floor liners will connect to the hooks which prevents it from sliding around. I can snap some photos for you if needed...

As others have said that’s the floor on FJ’s, so any floor mats designed for FJ’s will work. The weathertech’s are very nice, as are a few others like the husky liners that mimic the factory floor. Or the OEM carpet mats, the new all weather factory mats are okay, they just don’t hold as much muck as the weathertech or husky liners.
Note: you might need the floor mat clips if you don’t have them already. On the older FJ’s they were clips and on the newer ones they are twist clips and button clips in the rear for better retention of the floor mat. Either clip should work, as a lot of older FJ’s were converted to the newer clips. Example of the ones that would have been on your 07 FJ

Because of the other threads where folks had reported issues with Weathertech in their FJs, and because those same threads had folks who recommended Husky instead, I went with Husky brand, and they fit perfectly.

Have been running Husky liners for 10 years now. Pretty much the same as Weathertech. I will say that the liners that are plastic will tend to move around a bit more than the rubber liners (even with the hooks on the FJ. For example the Classic Husky Liners which is what I have are plastic/vinyl:

The Husky Heavy Duty Floor Mats are rubber (I have them in my Pilot) and dont move as much as vinyl/plastic classic sytle

Not sure if the WeatherBeaters are more rubber than plastic as I havent used them:
