Remote start questions/clarifications....

I want to add remote start to my 2012 FJ - I think I have this (somewhat) figured out but would like some resassurance/correction/suggestions.

It looks like the Xpres DBALL Kit Databus is basically an interface with the vehicle which eliminates the need for 10,000 scotch locks and wire splices. It needs to be setup/programmed for my FJ via their interface link on the PC, download correct settings or it looks like it can be done via a key sequence when plugged into the vehicle.

Then I need to select a compatible Remote Start (or RS and alarm) package from Viper or another reputable company to plug into the Xpres and away we go.

Ideally, I really want to just use my OEMkey fob and do the 3 locks to start. I don't want another piece of hardware in my pocket :)

I am not really looking for an alarm system, just remote start. However if there was a nice alarm setup that included the remote start, I would consider it.

Money is not a huge factor, rather I like doing my own work as nobody will do as nice of a job as I will on my own car. I am an ex-ASE certified mechanic so I am not afraid to work on the vehicle.....would rather go a T-harness route, splicing is not really an option. My rig is still under warranty.

Thanks in advance for any advice/corrections/clarifications/recommendations. My local Toyota dealer doesn;t do these installs but they did (off the record) recommend a local company that specializes in steroes, alarms, etc....again, I would rather DIY, but they are always an option.

I'm also interested in feedback on the Audiovox. We have been below zero every day for the past 2 weeks here in MT. Toyota told me they don't have a factory remote start available for my FJ so I'm looking into other options.

I went with a Python/Viper one. Its not an alarm system, but it comes with a fob that will unlock, lock, start, and many other functions so I do not carry around the OEM one, just the new one. It was pretty simple seeing how my 2007 doesn't have an immobilizer, but 2008 and up all did. I did do some splicing and soldering, but it wasn't really hard at all. I even programmed it to pop open the rear window with an aux option, and I plan on doing the roll-down/up window function before summer. Cheers!

Mine is a 2008. I thought you had to use the OEM key with the keyfob buttons on it cuz of some chip in it? I've checked out a few and like the Viper Smart Start. Does anyone have this and what model # would I need to get?

I have the 5704. I just carry the Viper FOB. The truck will not start unless it's disarmed, so leaving the key in console isn't a concern. A factory one would have been cool but I wanted the windows module. It rolls the windows up when I arm it.
