I am with you there. I removed mine a little while back after hitting my head twice. That was enough for me.

 

I removed mine with a manual screwdriver a couple weeks ago when I installed the side sun shades, didn't have any problems loosening the screws and didn't strip anything.

 

I had that exact experience.

 

If you remove them, what did you use to cover the hole???

 

Removed all 4 of mine and replaced with Ellis handles. No problem.

Haven't hit my head yet. I know its going to hurt like he11 when I do. :lol:

I've posted this before, but I replace all four grab handles with something similar to these - Thermo-plastic Handle on 1in Black Tubular Nylon Webbing
Added a grommet and a fender washer and done! No more hitting the head and these move outta the way easily.

I just got some of those flat topped fasteners. The ones that are almost 1" flat topped. Trim the barbed flange so it's thin enough to work into the threading. Twist into place, and you have a nice cover, that can be manually unscrewed if you ever want to reinstall the handle.

Even the black plastic ones can be sprayed (before install) so they blend in with the color of the headliner.

Total cost, under $10 including spray paint.

So I don't lose the bolts, I just screwed them back into the holes. The thought of whacking my head into those is not pleasant, but they're so high up I don't think it will happen....soon.

 

Ah the perks of being a little over 5'8". I've never hit my head... in fact, I replaced the factory ones with the billet aluminum. Not that would hurt.

 

Every time I try to order at a drive through. WHACK!:rofl:
