Removing grab handles

I'm tall and I've hit my head a bunch of times on the top grab rail. So today I decided to remove the drivers side handle for good. It looks funny with just the bolts up there, but boy does it feel nice to be able to move around without fear of whacking into the hard plastic handle!

If you are ever considering removing it, you will not be able to do it with just a screwdriver. I had to use an electric screwdriver on the medium setting to even get the bolts to budge. After the initial "unlock" of each bolt, they easily unscrew out. Repeat, don't try it with a manual screwdriver or you'll strip the bolt or your tool.

Free mod brought to you by superbox

I am with you there. I removed mine a little while back after hitting my head twice. That was enough for me.

I just got some of those flat topped fasteners. The ones that are almost 1" flat topped. Trim the barbed flange so it's thin enough to work into the threading. Twist into place, and you have a nice cover, that can be manually unscrewed if you ever want to reinstall the handle.

Even the black plastic ones can be sprayed (before install) so they blend in with the color of the headliner.

Total cost, under $10 including spray paint.
